I took Chantix for about a month. It lessened my cravings to smoke, but I started getting heart palpitations really bad. I ended up in the ER one day and the Dr. told me that he had never seen that side effect. He looked up the side effects in his palm pilot, and found that it was the very last side effect in the list. I decided to get off Chantix to see if that would help. Well now I'm going to be on Toprol for the rest of my life. They won't say for certain whether it was the Chanitix that caused it or not. Coincidence? I'm not sure. All I know, is that my heart was completely fine before it, and now if I am an hour late taking the Toprol my heart goes insane. My cardiologist has no clue what happened (I've been to two). I'm only 33 years old, and taking this medication for the rest of my life. Has anyone experienced heart palpitations after starting Chantix?

My heart went to 197 beats per minute. I had taken Chantix for 3 months, Stopped smoking. 3 days after not taking the medication, I felt numb, light headed. I thought I was having a panic attack. My heart rate went to 197. My blood pressure dropped low. I could see my heart beating through my shirt. It was very scary. I have started smoking again. When I was taking the medication it did help my cravings. That was a short term fix for me. I will never take this medicine again. I'm not sure it was a panic attack or the Chantix side effect. I'm not willing to find out by taking the medicine again. I thought I was going to die that day!!!! Hope more people will post a reply if they had this side effect.

I took chantix last oct (07) for about three weeks and quit smoking but started having breathing difficulties immediately and then started having heart palpitations - those have never gone away...about every other day I have a really bad time with my heart going crazy...I can see it jumping in my chest - this is accompanied with chest pain and often numbness of the right arm...resting heart rate will be 180+...after about three months of not smoking the cravings came back with a vengence so I started smoking again...appear to be stuck with the heart and breathing issues...have not wanted to go to the dr. but know I have to.
