I have had Mirena for one month. I have been bleeding for 3 weeks. And now it has gotten really bad. I bleed through a super tampon in 3 hrs. I have never had periods like this. And all this blood! Where is it all coming from? I also have had almost daily headaches since it was put in. I really wish I would have looked into this more carefully. My husband and I have no insurance and have to pay for the birth of our 2 month old out of pocket. So I thought spending $650.00 on this would be better in the long run b/c it lasts five years. If this bleeding and headaches don't change, I'm taking this beast out and will pay $40.00 a month for the ring.

Yes, I've had the Mirena since December of '07, and it has been horrible...the first 8 weeks, I was bleeding like mad. I went to the doctor thinking that it was something really really bad after about the 3rd week and the gyno told me that it's just what happens with the Mirena...and these side effects may last up to 6 mo. It's now 4 mo later, and I'm still bleeding...it goes in spurts now. I have had one infection so far, got treated with a large dose of anti-biotics, and I'm giving it to the 6th month. If its not gone, I'm getting it removed. Just sucks b/c yes, I have to pay for it outta pocket as well. I did research it, but the crap they don't tell you.....wish I found this site earlier!!

I don't know your situation or what state you are in, but you should check with your state's website and find out what kind of public insurance you might qualify for. Perhaps even WIC since you have a newborn. I'm in Illinois and I have Medicaid for myself and my children have the state insurance called All Kids. They even retroactively covered some medical expenses incurred during a trip to the Emergency Room when they weren't covered. I hope this was helpful or gives you a direction to look. Good luck to you.
