I have been in Lisinopril for about a month. I have a dry cough that keeps me awake at night, headache, fatigue and lightheadedness. My doctor refuses to believe the cough is from the Lisinopril. He said I have not taken in long enough for it to be side effects. He keeps increasing the dosage from 5mg then 10 now 30mg my blood pressure continues to climb averaging 150/100 not dropping below 140/90 and spiking to 177/118.My doctor is not concerned and says come back in 2 months. I am calling him tomorrow and if he doesn't change my med. I will stop Lisinopril and find a new doctor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After taking atenolol for years, my doctor changed me to Lisinopril. Within 48 hours I began a cough that was non-productive but severe. I lost bladder control when I was overtaken with these bouts of coughing. Two weeks after starting the drug I returned to the doctor about the cough. He said it was a side effect of Lisinopril and changed my medication. The cough continued for many weeks after stopping the medication. It was the same cough, unchanged, that I had from the medication. Suggest you find a doctor that knows more about drug side effects and the time of their onset..

I went through the same problem, was on the medication for a year, went to an ENT for the cough and throat problem, he found no cause. Found this WEB site and realized that my problem was possibly caused by this drug. Stopped the drug and within two months the problems were gone!

Thanks for the information that you posted about Lisinopril. Although I have not ever had a problem with high blood pressure, my doctor prescribed Lisinopril for me to make sure that my blood pressure stays low since I have been diagnosed with a stenosis in my aortic and mitral valves. I will eventually have surgery to replace the valves. However, I felt as though I was reading about my self when I read what you wrote. I have been on the medicine for a month and a half and have had the exact same symptoms as you. I never get a good nights rest. Nothing helps with the cough at all. I thought that I was just having a hard time with a bout of flu like illness that I experienced in late March. Not so. It has gone on much to long. I decided to stop taking the medicine 2 nights ago and have already seen an improvement in the cough. It was only after seeing my cardiologist 3 days ago and having him tell me that it might be the Lisinopril that was making me cough. Apparently it doesn't effect all folks the same because my son takes twice the dose that I do and has not had a problem except that his soriosis (sp) is worse. Now that I have read that the medicine is derived from a venemous snake out of Brazil, I am not comfortable in taking it. I don't intend to keep taking anything that is making me feel dizzy, short of breath, tired, sleepless and coughing non-stop. Hopefully, I will be able to discuss this issue with my doctor right away. If not, I won't take it again until he has spoken to me and given me an alternative prescription. Thanks
