Wow, I can't believe this. My son is turning 9. He has been on Singulair for almost 2 years. He has had extreme mood swings, headaches, stomach pains, leg pains. He hasn't slept well and as a result always was tired. In school he was so stressed by the work asked to do and would emotionally collapse not able to do anything - and I homeschool!! I thought maybe he had ADD. His 7 yr old brother began to say that he wasn't the same because he was always so mean and grumpy. I should've listened. I noticed the difference but I thought it was just depression, rebellion...I had lost my well behaved, sweetheart of a son. Since I heard of the report I took him off and have noticed a difference. His reactions aren't always so extreme or emotional. He is HAPPY again and compliant and joyful. When asked to do school work he doesn't throw a fit or flip out anymore!!! I can't believe the difference. I don't feel like we have to tiptoe around him anymore....he is reasonable now.
I will never give my children medicine again without first researching it myself!
I have also been off this medication for about 4 days. I feel much more like my old self! Enjoyed talking to people, relaxed, and did not feel like my mind was going 100mph. I have read that it may take two weeks to two months to feel more like 100% the old you, but it's allready a lot better. Read my post if you get the time.
I also decided to stop giving my seven year old daughter Singulair. She has been taking it for about a year. She was, like many others, complaining of headaches. I assumed it was part of her other allergy symptoms. I was told she had social anxiety and depression as well. She would often be sad and cried easily. Her personality has not been the same, but i assumed it was due to starting a new school. I was WRONG. Since being off this drug she is happy again. I can't believe it. My husband and I have a new daughter. Her MD is following up this afternoon..
I, too, have just heard the news of singlulair and I have a precious son that is now 10 yrs old. He has been on this med. since Feb of '05. Before the meds, he was popular, class favorite, funny and quite charming. Since the meds. he was a very angry little boy. He blammed everyone else for things wrong, he was sad alot, he was violent and finally suicide. He was then hospitalized for 10 days. It was very dramatic and devastating for him as well as our family. We didn't know what to do. We thought we were doing the right thing. Since being hospitalized, he has been put on 3 other meds. with the singular and has been in counceling. Now, I have read all the letters and have taken him off the singulair March 28, 2008 and we see our precious son comming back to us. We longed to see him happy and to see him smile. Guess what? We saw it yesterday and we praise God for all of you bringing this to everyones attention. Thank you so much and please pray that all of these children will not suffer more from this. Pawla
