What's the safe replacement drug for Singulair? I took my son off...

What's the safe replacement drug for Singulair? I took my son off it before and he had his worst asthma attack ever. I see all the same symptoms in my son who's 9 and has been on it for 4 years now. It's so scary. We're off to the doctors to see what can be done. My Pharmacist has never indicated that there was ever a change in the side effects to Singulair. Thank you for all your helpful postings.

Good luck with your son's asthma management plan. I'm sure they'll figure it out, but it might be nerve wracking at first. When my son first came off it he did have a bad relapse, but eventually things evened out for him. We just went back to the old standbys--Flovent, Albuterol, and Benedryl. His asthma is allergy induced, so if we catch him early enough we can stave off an asthma attack. He hasn't had one in over a year now. Also, the side effects with Singulair haven't changed, children have been having these symptoms for years (I first posted on here in 2005 under the screen name lmholmes, and others posted as early as 2003), it's just taken this long for anyone to sit up and take notice.
