Isnt it great the difference we see in our children,i have found this message board to be invaluble over the last week.My son is 14 now off singulair for 6 days, the change is immense.but going to sleep still is hard for him.I have been lucky enough to be under the care of a well renound sleep doctor who is a wonderful woman. She says just like a newborn baby we have to train there brains to rest, bed has not been a conforting place to them, sleep has not been restful but full of scary thoughts. When we go to bed, plump are pillows and roll over our brain says thank god im here i can rest, theirs hasnt done that for so many years we have to hope it relearns it.I to am worried about lasting affects but the happiness is undenyable.
I have had my son off singular for a few days, and see a little improvement as well. But one of our biggest issues used to be going to bed. About 3 months ago we started melatonin. It is amazing and the dr swears there is no issue with it (like we believe them anymore about drugs..). We give it to him about 7:00 pm and by 8:30, 9:00 he is sound asleep. AND he sleeps better all night. He wakes up by himself in the morning and is ready to start his day. I am hoping that now that we are off singular, we can wean our way off melatonin, but it coud be a temporary fix for your sleeping problems. Definately talk to your dr and do some research on it, but we have not found any problems as of yet. Good luck and God Bless.
I too am concerned about long term side effects. My 17 yr old son was on Singulair from age 9 to age 15-16. He was diagnosed with major depressive disorder at age 16-17. He has been off the drug for almost a year but is still experiencing depression. I do see gradual improvement being on Prozac everyday. I posted earlier under kerril21. March 29 or 30.
