I'm a 21 year old mother of one 4-year old. I recently got my Mirena put in on March 11, 2008. Insertion was painful but the cramps went away pretty quick when i left the doctors office I tried to feel for the string but i never felt it so i assumed that my fingers were to small to reach so i just forgot about it. My boyfriend and i had sex the next week and it felt much much different. It felt as if his penis had doubled in size or something. I just know that it HURT a little more but it was still somewhat enjoyable. Since then I got my period last monday March, 26th and I'm still bleeding 9 days later! It's very frustrating. My head is spinning all of the time, I black out, and i twitch like something is wrong. I've gained weight, I have intense migraines, and i'm scared!!!!! Today is the 4th of April and i want it removed so badly. I just left the doctors office for my follow up, so that he could make sure my Mirena is in place. GUESS WHAT.... HE COULDN'T FIND THE STRING to the Mirena....so now i've got an ultrasound appointment on Tuesday. I'm terrified that this thing is floating around somewhere in my body doing damage. My significant other is devestated because he is in fear that we can't have children together and he has already made himself distant. It's a very stressful situation. I'll keep you updated....

Hi Kekai,

I'm a 24 year old mom of a 3 year old. I had my IUD placed on March 10, 2008. The insertion was very painful as well and the cramps continued through the next day. I too have been experiencing migraines and I've been bleeding ever since it was put in although it's become much lighter (like spotting) since last week. I havn't tried feeling for the strings yet but I think I will tonight because I'm having some discomfort on my left side which really scares me. If I don't feel the strings I'm definitly calling my GYN because I'm really worried too. I'll keep you posted. Oh sex with my husband has been wierd too, there's a lot more friction and when we're done I feel really sore. I don't know but I'm starting to think I shouldn't have done this and I'm getting scared I won't be able to have more kids after this.
