The side effects I have felt since starting simvastatin in May 2006 (40mg), (as a precaution because I had high blood pressure) are identical to this and other posts. In addition, I had been waking up in the early hours and not getting back to sleep again, so getting about 4-5 hours sleep per night. From January this year I had been anxious and unable to relax. I can only describe the combined effect as taking strong coffee laced with kryptonite, 24/7.
Having now stopped taking it for a week, I have much more energy, can walk and exercise without puffing and fatigue. All the aches have disappeared. However, I still feel as though I have caffeine in my system.
The doctors basically ignored my symptoms, though for a long time I never thought that they were side-effects. When I recently mentioned to my doctor that simvastatin may be a cause, he more or less bullied me into conceding that my cholestrol levels were being kept low. In fact, my levels were never very high - it just felt right to take simvastatin as a precaution. Two chemically confused years later, I can only say what a difference there is when we come off it.
i have also been on simvastatin for 4years, for the first 2years i felt ok but nowi amhaving breathing problems anyone else? with this problem
I have been taking simvastatin for 2 1/2 years, i have always been a dress size 10 and have put on 3 stone!! I have tried very hard to lose the weight to no avail and was told by a work pal that it may be related to this drug. As I have been reading through the postings I have recognised other symptoms that I have such as, becoming breathless after simply walking up the stairs, tiredness, such a lack of energy like I have never known before. I will stop taking this today and will be back to tell you how I am doing. Lesley
