My mom, 72, has been sick for a year and a half now with drenching night sweats, chills, fatigue as well as some other symptoms. She has undergone every test imaginable and has been to tons of doctors. Every test is normal and the drs. don't know what is wrong. We recently came to the conclusion that she switched to a generic heart medicine at about the time she became ill as well as recently started to take generic paxil because she thought she was having a nervous breakdown. We have just switched her meds to all name brands to see if this will stop the sweats and her general ill feeling. Has anyone heard that taking generic drugs could do this? Specifically Verapamil and the generic paxil. Thanks.

i took paxil for 15 years and 3 years ago they switched me to a generic brand proxitiene. after a month on that, i went backwards. felt like i was getting depressed again and bad anxiety attacks, brain zaps, etc. my doctor put me right back on the brand name. so i can relate to what you have gone thru. some people, including me can't take most generic drugs. i'm only 36 and am trying to get thru the last of the side effects of paxil which i am completely done with coming off paxil' i just wonder how long the side effects for this will last. i hope everything works out for you and your mom. check with a doctor but i take a vitamin stress b12 vitamin, a multi centrum vitamin and have recently tried adding ground flaxseed to my diet in my foods. hope this helps.

Isn't this interesting. I just happened onto this posting by accident but I can relate some personal experience on the matter. I was previously on Paxil for a long time (4 or 5 years) and then quit for almost a year. The withdrawal was not very pronounced and life was good. Then a severe health problem set me back quite a bit and I went back on the Paxil but this time it was generic. At first, things were fine but then I began getting worse, and worse, and worse. I decided it might be the drug (the only drug I take) and decided it was time to stop. WOW! The withdrawal effects are horrible!! I now wonder if there is a difference in the generic version. I know for a fact that my experience has been quite different this time around. BTW, the depression is much LESS without taking the generic stuff. Also, my headaches, body aches, etc. are subsiding too. I never had that with the name brand!
