I have just gone back onto Yasmin after an absolutely horrifying experience trying to come off it. I have taken Yasmin for 3 years with minimal problems. My skin was fantastic - never a blemish. I actually LOST weight while on it and went up a up a breast cup size. I got lighter periods which was a godsend. I did get a few problems though - gas and stomach bloating as well as headaches sometimes shortly after taking it and occasionally break-through bleeding. But for me the pros outweighed the cons. I came off it recently as I'm no longer in a long term relatonship and it was just awfull. My skin broke out, I got very oily hair and skin and felt like I was going through puberty again. The worst problem was that in just 3 weeks I blew up like a baloon. I literally stacked on weight every day and my family all made suggestive comments like "been enjoying the cake lately?" I was so angry since I'm such a healthy eater and excersize every single day!!!!! I have never had a problem wth my weight before and the only change I made in my lifestyle was coming of Yasmin. I was so upset with my appearance I have actually gone back on the Yasmin. However its ridiculus to stay on it for beauty's sake. Has anyone ever experiecend this before??? If so what did you do????

my best suggestion would be to get some Proactive for your acne and give your body time to adjust to the changes in hormones. Taking it for 3 years has built up the level of hormones and your body does'nt know what to do without them. I know it can take up to 3 months for your body to get used to taking hormones. Maybe, try not taking it and give yourself enough time to adjust to the changes.

Hi Eriana,

I stopped taking Yasmin about a month ago and I have had some of the same symptoms that you've had - most notably, weight gain and increased moodiness. I think I'm going back on it too, because I liked the way that I felt and looked on it more than I do now. We absorb a lot of xeno estrogen (foreign estrogen) through plastic, cosmetics, detergents, etc. (check out www.goodbyepms.com for more info), so if taking Yasmin can offset the effects of this extra estrogen for some women, then why not take it? I'll talk to my doctor about it the next time I see her, but for now, I just want my body back and to get rid of this moodiness, so I'm going back on it. Life's too short to be miserable.

So, how have you been feeling since you've been back on it?

I had very close symptoms. I have been on birth contorl since I was 16 I am 26 now. I was on Yasmin for close to 6 years. I went off of it to try and concive a child. I went off and with in days was getting symptoms oily skin, tired, and depresion. I went three months and finaly went to the dr becase I could not take it anymore. I found out that my thyroid had pretty much stoped. I then found out the problem could have been there for some time and that the pill often times can mask the side effects and blood work saying your thyroid is fine and it's really not. We are still trying to concive. I belive that my body has pretty much forgot how to make it's own hormones and it's becase of the pill. If I were you I would go back off of it and get your thyroid checked. A messed up thyroid can cause infertility and I am a prime example.

I agree with bp29. I had a hard time getting off yasmin to have a baby. I was so frustrated I went back on it a few months later I stopped again. Became pregnant and developed a thyroid condition that was there for years. BC can mess up thyroid function. I still dealing with it. I would not take that pill anymore
