Hi, It depends on how long you've been on corticosteroids. Usually, it takes anywhere from a few days to a few months (in long-term use in high doses) up to two years in order to return to normal. Taking high-quality supplements is a good idea. Good luck!
dear Vanessa, I know exactly what you are talking about. I was fighting bronchitis for over 2 wks. Two days ago the dr. gave me a cortisone shot, and a perscription for prednisone 20 mg tablets. I was to take 3 tabs. every morning for 4 days. thats 60mg. a day. and 2 tabs every morning for 2 days. Yesterday was the first day i took the 3 tabs. I ended up in the emerg. room last night for 9 1/2 hours. I had a fever, the worst headache i have ever had, and a racing, and pounding heart rate. My blood pressure was so high when i got there i thought i was gonna have a stroke. I finally got seen by dr. after 6 hrs. They did a bunch of test. Told me i was having reaction to the prednisone, and not to take anymore. I was put on IV for 3 hrs to flush it out of system. After 3 hrs my heart rate went back to normal, my blood pressure went down. The headache got a lot better, but it is still hurting some. I would rather have bronchitis. The er dr. said it was either to large a dose or I cannot take it. I'am afraid to try a smaller dose. You should tell your dr. about the reactions.
Hope you get better. jc
