"Worry Free" my foot! How can you not think about something that causes you so much continual misery? I am so stunned at all the reports of doctors who refuse to remove the Mirena or make their patients go through such protracted justification for removal. Thank God my doctor was not like that...he told me that he has been hearing my story over and over and he removed it w/o further discussion. Maybe this thing works for some, but for the rest of us, it causes a whole lifestyle changing group of negative side effects. Stand by your decision to get this thing out, you won't regret it. I can't believe how much better I feel....how NORMAL I feel!! Good luck to you!
If your ignorant doc needs something to "write in your chart" for you to get it out, and if the doc won't listen to your concerns, just say you want to get pregnant - they can't argue with that! Good luck with removal and I hope you start feeling better soon!!
Tnksmom: I was totally thinking the same thing as you! I have been thinking about what I'm going to tell my doctor about why I want my Mirena removed. I'm fearful that she will give me a hard time and I don't really feel like dealing with it. However, I want to be honest with her because I fully believe that the best way for Doc/Patient's to interact is honestly. (I'm a Nursing student!) Anyway, I've been debating the honesty versus I want to get pregnant speech I should give my doc!! LOL I think I'll end up going with the truth and insist she take it out... otherwise I'm reaching in there and taking it out myself!

I am in nursing school also and I just found out that my right ovary is 3.5 times large than my left and I have a cyst on it that is 7.1 cm x 5.something cm. I also have the mirena and have had issues since the beginnig (2.5 yrs), constant cramping, low back pain, acne, tender breast and the list just goes on. I started wondering if it was all in my head because the couple of times I have went to my OBGYN she tells me that everything looks good. I started having the lower right abdominal pain in Nov 07 and my OB did a transvaginal ultrasound ($400) and said that everything looked ok and now my ovary has exploded(not literally) and I have a cyst. This scared me to death, but now that I see it is not an uncommon problem, I want the thing out. And what happens to the patient being able to make choices about their own healthcare? Thanks for listening.
