I am 34 and started taking loestrin 24 at the advice of my doctor...

I am 34 and started taking loestrin 24 at the advice of my doctor cause I have really heavy periods and a lot of breakthrough bleeding mostly due to fibroids which has made me quite anemic. I was hoping this would help. I started Loestrin 24 about 16 days ago. On the ninth day I started breakthrough bleeding and it hasn't stopped! I feel like it's become a full fledged period! I just hope the bleeding stops soon. I have pretty bad cramps and backaches. I've been popping many advil. Also, my breasts are tender and they're definitely bigger (I liked my boobs the way they were!). As far as mood, the first week was fine, but I was pretty lethargic and depressed the second week. Starting the third week yesterday, my mood has been much better. It sounds like people have had success after the 3 month waiting. Me, I'm willing to duke it out for another month for the almost-nothing periods. But 2 more months of this I don't think I can handle. I'll let you know what happens

Hello!
I am 37 years old. I also started taking loestrin 24 due to heavy bleeding from fibroids.I started this pills last December so it has been about 4 to 5 months now. I experience the very light bleeding at the time that I supposed to have the periods (maybe 2 or 3 days of a little spotting. Maybe 4 or 5 pads for whole period time).
I am very relieved that my heavy bleeding stopped. But for this relief, I also have to face some side affects from loestrin 24. I still feel my breast tenderness almost all the time (But not as much as trouble me for my daily life). I got my blood pressure higher (Now I am on the blood pressure medication too). I gained some weight (I mean that I stopped loosing weight even I try.) I often have vaginal discharge (almost like brown spotting that I get during period time) when I take white pills time. But I still feel a little pain (discomforts) from fibroids even through my fibroids are not that beg yet. I sometimes take advil for it. I am going to see my doctor in two weeks, and I am thinking to ask if all other BC pills have similar side effects. Hope you get through this difficult time.

Thanks for the info. So I just finished my second month on loestrin. And I have to say things went much better. once I started the white pills on the second month - I had no breakthrough bleeding (no spotting) the whole month. My period was pretty light (lighter than what they usually were for me) and cramps were much lighter too. My breast tenderness has gone away, but I still feel a little moody (i'm not sure if this is the pill or me!). In general, my fibroids feel the same - I still have pressure on my bladder and bowels but no better or worse than before. I'm hoping loestrin doesn't make them fibroids worse! If you don't mind me asking, what discomforts have your fibroids been causing you?

HOW ARE YOU DOING NOW? IT'S MAY 12, 2009. I TOO HAVE A VERY LARGE FIBROID 8 TO 9 CM. AND HAVE BEEN SUGGESTED BY MY DOCTOR TO TAKE LOESTRIN 24 FE. I'M HESITANT TO DO SO. I'M 42 YRS. OLD AND DIDN'T WANT TO ADD ANY MEDICATIONS TO MY BODY UNNECESSARILY, HOWEVER THE HEAVY BLOOD FLOW FROM THE FIBROID IS GETTING TO BE MORE AND MORE. I'D APPRECIATE YOUR RESPONSE , IT WOULD HELP ME ALOT WITH MY DECISION. GOOD LUCK!

I'm 27 and started taking Loestrin24 at the beginning of August after a miscarriage. My ob/gyn assured me the quickest way to get back on a normal cycle, thus be able to try to conceive again was by taking birth control.

I missed one pill but took it within 12 hours of my normal time. Since then, the spotting from before has turned into what seems to be a regular period even though I'm still taking the white pills.

This is very frustrating. I am only on this med to regulate my period so we can make a baby - and it seems to be messing me up even more. I think I'm going to stick with it until the end of the pack and then hopefully have a normal period and stop bleeding.

Anyone else have this problem?

This is my first time taking birth control so I anticipated some abnormalities, but this is extremely concerning. I just finished taking the white pills on the first pack and I've been bleeding extremely heavily for over a week now, and I have to assume that it will continue during the placebo days, which will bring it up to two weeks not including the three days before this when I had this awful brown discharge. If this is the only month it will happen, I can deal, but I refuse to have menorraghia for weeks on end. It would be one thing if it were just spotting like on the first day that I took the pills, but I'm actually taking iron supplements because I've been so tired. Which have so graciously made me nausiated.

I actually have to wear two pads just to get through more than two hours of activity...I think I'm going to have to call my doctor soon.
