I started on Yasmin a year ago because I believed the TV advertising. I had no noticeable side effects for several months, then began heart palpitations, anxiety attacks in the middle of the night, crying for no reason, severe headaches, and my blood pressure, which has always been low, skyrocketed to as high as 160/130. I asked my gyn if Yasmin could be the cause and he said maybe, so I took myself off it. I had to go on blood pressure medication, but I'm hopeful that after that poison pill is out of my system I can get off the meds. The doctor's office called yesterday to say my cholesterol was so high they wanted me to go on medication for that. I last had cholesterol checked in Nov, and it was fine. I've been off yasmin for two weeks and already feel more hopeful and less anxious.

Hello, I am a 38 yr old who just recently stopped taking Yasmin/yaz. I have PCOS. I decided 1 1/2 yrs ago after gaing weight and having a cholesterol level of 300 that I needed to do something to control my symptoms associated with PCOS. I started on Yasmin. I lost weight and my hair loss stoppped and my oily skin went away. It was fine for about 1 yr. 3 mos. My chol. level went down. Then I noticed that my weight was up a bit and no matter what I tried I COULD not lose weight and my breasts were ALWAYS larger than not being on the pill. I also noticed something really scary, heart palpitations PVC"S. I have always had palpitations, pretty normal occurences. However at the same time that I noticed the weight issue I noticed very continuous Heart palps. They got to the point where I couldn't sleep. I was sooo scared I saw a DR. and had a stress test etc...Well they found nothing. My heart PVC's got soo bad that I stopped the pill. That was 1 week ago. I have not had 1 palp/PVC since. So the moral of my story is, YAZ/Yasmin is some scary stuff. I have taken the pill on/off for yrs, never taking it for that prolonged a period but I have never had heart problems with it. I literally felt a huge difference immediately after skipping the first dose. So take with caution.

My goodness, I could have written verbatim what you wrote, tracy47. I have a history of thyroid problems in my family so when I was walking 2-3 miles a day 3-4 times a week, doing pilates and other exercise, watching what I ate, taking fish oil and heart healthy multi-vitamins all to be unsuccessful in my weight loss, I figured it was because I too had thyroid issues. Instead, I was shocked that my dr's office called me just today to tell me my bad cholesterol was 200 when exactly a year ago it was 137.

I'd suspected Yaz was the cause of my lack of weight loss and the pills also caused huge mood swings in me so I recently went off them. I now suspect they are to blame for my high cholesterol as well! I'm so glad I searched and found this site!

I honestly feel Yaz does more harm than good.

Tracy47, I had the same thing happen. I went in for a pap and ended up getting sent to the emergency room because my blood pressure was 180/120. I have now been off Yasmin for 2 weeks, but I was put on blood pressure medication. Were you able to get off your blood pressure meds? How are you feeling now?
