I don't know how long it will take but I have been on this antibiotic for a week. I have actually gotten sicker. I have had the nausea, feel lightheaded, dizzy, down right goofy. I have had a few breathing problems with it. The first day I vomitted five forceful times...thought it was the sinus or bronchitis. They changed my antibiotic today to Augmentum. I was being treated for a recurring sinus infection and bronchitis. They took a chest x-ray for pnuemonia. This drug has made me feel awful. I had a piercing headache almost every four hours and just kept taking advil every four hours. Hope you feel better. I will never take this again. My Physicians assistant said she cannot take it either. Good luck
I have been told by my ENT that the z pak should NEVER be prescribed for a sinus infection. It is Only for chest infections. ENTs only play by this regular dr do not have this knowledge. Once we went to a Dr. CARE and they prescribed a z pak and we said no thanks our ENT has educated us not to take a z pak for a sinus infection. She said yeah I know that too but we do it because so many patients bitch for us to prescribe it for them. I repeated what she said and asked did you just say this and she said yes. CRAZY CRAZY you really have to do homework upon homework with medicines and health. What we have found that works is chiropractic and what we use is called specific chiropractic. Also at the least bit of change in the sinuses or down through the ears we start taking quaifenesin. Most people buy Mucinex put I buy generic. Drink plenty of water with it because it pulls water from everywhere in the body to thin out the mucus. Some women use it to help get pregnant too. Also I like to use fenugreek in pill form sometimes it is mixed with other things and that is fine too. One friend of mine that can not take any antihistamines only uses fenugreek. the reason to not use a Z pak for a sinus infection is the same reason to not use ANY antibiotics for a sinus infection- without a culture you don't know if the infection is fungal, viral or bacterial. if it's either one of the former, you are subjecting your body to the effects of antibiotics (probably minor for zithromax, possibly catastrophic for avelox) and developing antibiotic resistance for no good reason.
has anyone ever found a doctor who will culture your sputum BEFORE writing a script for an antibiotic? i sure haven't. i've brought spit in a jar and the doctor refused and gave me an antibiotic anyway.
the second reason is that there aren't a lot of blood vessels into the sinuses (a doctor told me this) so you have to have a lot of antibiotic coarsing through your system to get a little where you want it.
this doctor knew that i used a neti pot and wondered if putting a drop of a topical antibiotic (mouthwash) in one's daily nasal rinse might not be a more effective way of delivering the antiobiotic where you need it.
try it- it works. use a non-alcohol based mouthwash that is free of artificial colors, etc
