I think you have to understand that there is science and there is business. Unfortunately, the latter has usurped the former for the bottom line. Merck execs don't care who lives and who dies and the faster the public starts realizing that the better. They are like the guys that worked for Enron in that movie, laughing and joking as people in California were losing their electricity and some older people actually died. This kind of mentality is amoral. They need hearings on this drug just like they had for those highly paid baseball players taking steroids. They had a choice, these children and babies don't because information was hidden, intentionally kept from the caretakers.

Folks, just because you do not like the med does not mean it doesn't have good uses! Do you know tha viagra and ibuprofen are also used in care of premature babies? And they WORK! Do not assume that everything works the same as it does in adults. Just think, ventilators cause lung damage but the baby would die without it. It is a case of what is worse. As a NICU nurse I can understand the reasoning behind using this drug. Unfortunately another great drug was pulled from the market due to family Dr.'s not using proper precautions with who they gave the med to, and now a lot of Premies are paying the price. Remember, not all meds work the same for everyone. If a med caouses you problems, discuss it with your Dr.
