My 6 year old son has been on Singulair for 2 years and I have noticed a big change in his behavior but it all started with leg cramps and falling down alot..I told my dr about what was going on but she told me that it was nothing to worry about that it is growing pains..Before he started the on the singulair he was always a happy go lucky kid never had problems with him back talking or ever really getting angry. Now that I read all these reports these are the problems I have with him now: My child has never offered to hit, kick or slap me but in the past year he has gotten more aggressive not only toward me but others as well.. He is fearful of people now thinking that they are being mean to him or picking him out to pick on or make fun of. He has problems of headaches on a regular basis but just thought it was due to his sinus infections... I have also noticed that my child has started hurting himself like punching even slapping himself in the face when he gets really angery or fustrated about things.. Sometimes he has problems with nightmares but not that much.. He also has problems with stomach pain as well... My concern is taking my son off Singulair with his asthma being under control right now and he just recently had sinus surgery but I think it will be the best thing for him just because I want my sweet child back not the aggressive and abusive child he is now.... That is why first thing in the morning he will be taking him to his dr to find another medication to put him on and take him off the Singulair....

Thank you for your post. My son is now nine and while he has not hit me, he seems to have less respect with the talking back. And much like you explained, hitting himself with frustration etc. Basically you explained my child to a T. Only I did take him off when the commercials started on the TV and I have not seen improvement, atleast a noticeable one anyway. So whether this is a long term damage, or like on the theory of ritalin, learned behavior now, I can't say. I think we first need to find out the initial damage that was done to answer that. I hope we all get our precious children back, either way. It is horrifiing that as a mother you are trying to help your child and find you may be hurting him more. In fact, last night he was curled up in a ball after his shower crying someone was watching him. That is a first, could that be withdraw from the singulair, because I just plain removed him. I am terrified. And in the interest of singulair I don't want to hear another diagnosis, because he didn't do this before now. I fear we will have the same problems as the shots that have caused so much autism in our children. May God Bless these kids and guide us parents. I am torn on anger and the irrresponsible nature of every entity who puts our children on these things before knowing what they are or can do. It isn't fair to the children or the parents. To first and foremost, what about our children now? Will they get back to who they were before the singulair? Is there something that can be done to help them? behavior problems are not fun to deal with in the schools either. And someone needs to step up to the plate and address that as well. Stop these schools from basic non human torture when all your trying to do is help your child. Blaming the kids and making things worse in the interest of how much money the school can get, with grade problems etc. If a child has a problem in the education system today, it is dealt with in the sense of the ole mighty dollar, not in the best interest of education. And, I am guilty enough for putting him on this stuff to begin with. Do you ever trust another medication again? And yes we are back to dealing with the asthma again. But when you are messing with the brain unknowingly, I will continue to deal with it because as they say, do the risks out way the benefits? At this point, and as I am currently a witness, absolutely NOT. I am not telling anyone else what to do. that certainly is your choice and your children, but this is my opinion. I am so angry right now and horrified, I am just so upset at these pharmaceutical companies right now, I could vomit. I am Praying for your child, and your family as well. and everyone dealing with these issues. Be the shots, or any one of the medications released with ignorance and financial gain in the forefront of all intentions. May God Bless and Guide us all.

Be prepared for you doctor to dismiss the claims about Singulair causing the side effects. Most doctors are unaware of what is going on. Many studies have been posted on this website by concernedcitizen. If only the doctors would read the postings on this website and not listen to the crap that Merck is feeding them. My doctor's office even said," We spoke with a Merck representative and they assured us it is safe to take and keep prescribing it." Of course most doctors listened to drug companies and not patients. Direct your doctor to this site or print some of the studies by concernedcitizen and take to your doctor. Also file a complaint with the FDA at https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/medwatch/. Good luck and keep us posted.

I actually talked to my childs dr today and she as well had no idea what was going on with this medication but even so she recommended taking him off the Singular for a couple of months to see if that is the cause of all his problems. Which I agree with that and he is already on so many meds with having allergies and asthma on top of that. I hope and pray that one way or the other the pharmacutical companies take responsiblity for what has happened with this drug. But I will say this with any drug we take this risk especially with all the new drug being a pharmacy tech I think that all the reps that go to the dr office to promote these drugs should have at least some education in the pharmacy world but they don't when they get a new drug they go to the class to find out what the drug use is for and then goes and promotes it to dr who most of the time is to busy to read anything about it then starts giving it to patients. I think something needs to be done and soon how many childeren have to be hurt by pharmacutical companies....

My heart aches to read your post and then read the other responses. I found it because my daughter woke up with leg cramps and when I googled this is what I found. I feel inclined to tell you her story in hopes it will be an encouragement as well as a life saving remedy. My daughter was on an adult dose of zyrtec for her sinus issues before she was three and I was lined up for sinus surgery when I met a progressive chiropractor. I kind of cringed when I first listened to him but I kept thinking of my daughters future and really didn't want to deal with surgery either so we started going. In less than a month we were both off of all medication and this april it is 1 year. I can honestly tell you I haven't taken on bit of allergy medicine and nor has my daughter. I don't need sinus surgery and I haven't even been back to my allergy dr. No allergy shots NOTHING. I have talked to the Chiropractic a lot about kids and he was telling me about kids that no longer need inhalers and ridalin. I just thought I should share that as well as my own testimony. If you want more information I would be more than willing to talk to you. If really saved our lives. joannaterri@aol.com
