My daughter has allergy induced asthma, and allergy shots (a long commitment) has helped reduce the amount of preventative drugs she had to take. She in now only on a very small dose of Pulmicort - one of the safest for children. Good Luck!
As a mom, and my love of kids. Thank you. I am so happy you said you are not going to give it to her. And I wish I had this info. before I poisoned my child. But bottom line, if you go back and they give you an attitude. You are protecting her as only you can. We have to do something about not being allowed to make our own decisions for what we know is right for these kids. But I can't tell you how relieved I was to read what your decision was for that baby, and yourself. I know I am weird, and maybe care alittle to much, but, thats just who I am, can't help it. Have been through so much with meds myself. Thought I was watching out for my children. You just never know and it is too scary. But so glad one kid will not go through this. Thank you again.
Please read these posts thoroughly and look at all of the studies provided in these posts. Your child may do just fine on it but is it worth the risk? No one, not even doctors, know how a person is going to react. The side effects are HORRIBLE. No parent wants their child to go through the hell many kids and adults have gone through. Your doctor has no idea what possible side effects could occur. Count your blessings that you discovered this site BEFORE starting Singulair unlike many of us. If your doctor gives you a problem, print out some of these posts and studies to prove that Singulair can be EVIL!!! I wish you luck with finding an alternative to Singulair.
My allergy profile is mold (high intolerance), dust mites, and some grass that I have no idea where it even grows. Dust mites isn't all that bad. I have mattress covers that encase the entire mattress, pillow protectors, and keep very clean sheets. I clean the carpets with dust mite cleaner and vacuum frequently. Think of the benefits of that -- a very clean house and you will also protect against bed bugs which are now a very big problem in England after coming in the suitcases of travelers from the Middle East. Just in case some bed bugs arrive in your area, they won't be able to find a way to hide at your house. So no dust mites or bed bugs will get your child at night.
I also eliminated all foods that are known to cause allergies including gluten because I realize that my body is hyper-sensitive. I feel much better when I am strict about my diet.
Keep a sense of humor. Cheers.
Don't give Singulair. The drug works, yes, but the side effects are horrible. And they don't show up immediately, but develop over time. It can be difficult to recognize it: most of us just wondered what phase our children were entering, when in the sum total, the whole child changed because of Singulair.
If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't give my child singulair. Espcially since the side effects progressed slowly, over years. What happymom from the previous reply said about what "phase" our kid was going through hit the nail on the head. We thought "that's just the way he is".
You're hearing from all of us who have lived the nightmare and I am still living it as my son has just been diagnosed with asthma after his latest trip to the ER Wed. night. Never had asthma b/f starting Singulair! As the others have told you- be grateful that you learned about it before you started it! My son is now on Flovent 2x daily and albuterol in b/w in case he needs it! Go the inhaler route first if you have too as needed! Although the side effects were noticed within days, I was lucky - as stated, many of the moms were not so lucky! Best of luck!
