I was on prednisone for four months. 40mg a day most of the time....

I was in the Medical professinon when i first started this medication.I have been taking prednisone on and off for the last 13 years. I was diagnosed with severe bronocial asthma. 13 years ago i had a doctor who used prednisone, theopholone or slow bid.Two different steriods as my primary treatment for asthma management.in 6 months i went from 130 to 200lbs. I felt like i was going crazy. I took care of babies and feared for their safety because i had racing thoughts and mood swings. I recognized that i couldn't care for children or function on these med. I ate like I was starving. I couldn't keep still or sleep at night. During my last asthma attack I asked my doctor to please manage my asthma some other way, when she refused to listen to me and I changed doctors. I am up 4:00 in the morning because it is 12 years later and I'm having asthama flare up because of severe allergies. Since that time I've been on The 'P' for less than a week on low dossages. My point is NO ONE should be on this Medication for more than a week it is a powerful medication, I feel that doctors do not know the potency of this med. It can open airways almost immedentley. I believe that it can reverse medical conditions in a week or less. Why wait until these side effects kick in that get so severe that you feel worst than when you first went to the doctor to be treated. Know your body. True enough it is the only thing that works when i can't breath but there is no need for me to stay on this for more than a week. God forbid high dossages,no one should be taking high dossages of this stuff. Low dossages will work. This Doctor who was filling in for my doctor started me on 120mg to be tappered down to 20 in one week. I know what my body needs over the last 12 years. I adjusted my own dossage to 80 mg to be tappered to 20 in 5 days. Maybe I go back to sleep in a little while,(been on less than 24 hours) but montior your side effects, and know your body. This medication should be substituted for something will less side effects. You have to save yourself. You can refuse this medication and ask for another way to treat your aillments. And unless you are allergic to insect bites, don't take this med and the women who allow the doctors to give this to her baby you took a chance but i understand that you didn't know but keep in mind some doctors don't understand the terrible side effects of this med, ASK YOUR PHARMACIST before taking this drug. I forgot in the time that i gained almost 70 lbs I got high blood preassure, I've lost most of the weight but the high blood pressure is still with me. Find another med this one is out dated, and wiil ruined your body and health if left un checked.
