I'm a 46 years old male normally good shape,I was put on Lipitor due to high cholesterol and family history of heart problems.I've been on lipitor for four years , 2years on 10mg, 1 years on 40mg and 1 year on 80 mg. The last 6 months I have been experiencing severe archiles tendonitis to the point where I can hardly walk. I am extremely disatisfied with this drug and have read a lot of complaints regarding this drug. Has anyone else experienced this side effect? Please reply to this post. Thank You

I was put on Lipitor as a prentative measure since I've had Type 1 Diabetes for 35 years (even though my average HDL is 87 and my average LDL is 47). My Internist recently told me that I had Achilles Tendonitis when I told her about the sharp pain I get when I flex my right calf muscle. She told me to ice it and see if it got better. Now I'm wondering if this is a side effect of the 20mg of Lipitor I take daily.

I AM 57. I RAN ALL THE TIME A COUPLE YEARS AGO, FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS, I HAVE BEEN ON 20 MG OF LIPITOR A DAY. I STARTED RUNNING AGAIN A FEW WEEKS AGO AND CANNOT GET IN MOR THAN ONE LAP BEFORE MY LOWER CALF (FIRST THE LEFT, NOW THE RIGHT) STARTS GETTING SERIOUS PAIN. I HAVE TRIED TO RUN THROUGH IT BUT THAT ONLY MAKES IT WORSE THE NEXT DAY. I STRETCH ALL THE TIME AND HAVE NEW RUNNING SHOES. THE ONLY THING DIFFERENT IS THE LIPITOR. I MUST ASSUME THERE IS SOME RELATIONSHIP TO THE MEDICATION AND THE PAIN WHEN RUNNING. NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE??

I am also a 45 year old otherwise healthy male and have been on statin medication for about three years. Crestor for about a year and was worried about taking that drug and my doctor switched me to 20 mg of Lipitor and have been on Lipitor for about two years. I have had these similar tendonitus issues in both biceps/elbows and some thumb joint pain. I have also lifted moderately since my early twenties and golfed with no problems until recently when I began having pain in both arms. I can barely lift my golf bag over my shoulder and can barely lift a coffee mug in the mornings (when it is at it's worst). I plan on seeing a doctor soon about the pain. jrcrossnoe@comcast.net

I'm so glad I stumbled onto this board! I started on 40 mg Lipitor four years ago to treat a high c reactive protein level. So far, Lipitor has brought my CRP level down significantly. Soon after I started on Lipitor, I developed what my doctor said was golfer's elbow in my right elbow tendon. To then, I had been playing golf for 20+ years without any such problem. The pain became unbearable to the point where I could not shake hands or use a stapler with my right hand. Soon thereafter, I developed the same problem in my left elbow tendon, although to a much lesser degree. A combination of drugs, physical therapy and, eventually, rest, allowed my elbows to heal ... until recently. In the interim, I began developing pain in both achilles tendons. Initially, it was just tightness when I first got out of bed, but eased up after 5 or 6 steps. Over time, it grew much worse, resulting in significant pain when walking after my feet remain in the same position for any length of time, to the point where, like bidou, there have been days when I am unable to walk. I became convinced that all of this sudden tendon trouble could be related to Lipitor, although, obviously, I can't say for sure and, I suppose, have no basis for thinking that other than the coincidental timing of the tendon troubles immediately following my taking Lipitor. Not finding any literature connecting Lipitor and tendonitis, I thought that I must have been wrong - until I found all of you. At least now I don't feel like I'm alone and crazy for thinking that there is a connection.

Update: I tested the theory out , I stopped taken lipitor for three days and my feet got better , I took lipitor for three days after and they got worse . I did this for three times. same result. Its been almost three months I have taken myself off Lipitor completely and and my feet are almost back to normal for the exeption of my right foot, it had the worse damage.but getting better. Hope this helps.

My archiles tendon popped while on lipitor, my muscles were extremely sore and could hardly stand the pain in my feet and back. It is definetly the lipitor. I have now been off lipitor for 2 months and everything is finally returning to normal. hope this helps
