Was you son on Singulair for asthma or seasonal allergies?
My 8 year old daughter was diagnosed as ADD the SAME day the Singulair warnings came out. I did not know about the warning and decided to research the drugs she was on to see if they could've caused inattentiveness and lack of focus. The psychologist did say my daughter didn't meet enough of the criteria to be ADHD Inattentive, so she diagnosed her as ADHD-NOS (not otherwise specified). After I told her about drugs possibly causing this as a side effect, she said that's probably why she doesn't have the "classic" ADHD presentation. My daughter has been off the drugs now for 2 weeks and we have noticed a huge improvement.
I just posted my story, however my son was diagnosed with ADHD at 5 and he had been on Singulair for a couple years then. I just recently heard about all this and I am taking both my children off the medication. I will keep you updated, to see if my sons' ADHD has improved at all since he has discontinued Singulair. Glad to hear things have gotten better for your daughter!
My son was on it for 3 1/2 years. He is 6 and is now being refferred for ADHD evaluation. Im am putting it off awhile to allow the medications to come out of his system.. If he was to be diagnosed being ADHD I want it to be because he is and not because it was medication side effects. We went for one evaluation with a neurologist in Nov. This was before his adenoid surgery for chronic sinusitis. Neurologist preliminary report to his Peditrician indicated definate signs of ADHD and also stated child is on NO medication. This made me livid back then because he was on SIngulair, nasonex, abuterol when needed, mucinex when needed and claritin when needed. I know this Dr knew because we discussed the meds..

Two months ago, our sons 1st grade teacher advised us to bring our 6 yr old to the doctor for an evaluation. He was inattentive, in a "fog", tired, very sad, and would roam around the room, even doing somersaults in class! The doctors do NOT beleive that he has ADD or ADHD. However, they don't think he is "filtering" his thoughts properly and advised us to take him for a neuropsycological test. We have an appt next month. No one thought for a second that it could be the medications he is taking. We took him off singulair on April 7th. Since then, he is listening better, happier then before - we are taking one day a time!
My son is 18 and had been on singulair for 8 years. He has started to change in many ways. One thing that we can tell is that now we are getting real emails full of info and with complete sentences. It is almost like a different person was writing them. Before I would get one email a week if I was lucky and it would say: "yes or no" answering some question. It is a real change. By the way he did drop out of college before he stopped the medication- lack of interest, lack of sleep, could not concetrate and the list goes on an on.... In high school we thought he was ADD or had some learning disability.... but how could that be when he had tested advanced- enriched in school tests before he started the singulair. I can not prove anything but you wonder...
My son was ADHD & poss. Bipolar b4 even going on Singulair While on it for a year It made his already unstable mental health 10X WORSE so yes definately loss of concentration, hyper, inabillitly to focus etc.!!!!!
My son....(this seems to be more common with boys....anyone else notice that...everyone's post says...my son, my son, )
Anyway yes while on the medication my son was diagnosed with ADD. He was throwing paper airplanes at the neurologist while we were in for a follow-up appointment regarding his change in behavior. The Dr. said, " Anyone ever tell you that he may have ADD? "
I thought of course he does, I have it so there you go....
He has been off the Singulair since March 30th. He is still on a pretty heavy duty psych med and his ADD medication. He seems to still have ADD, however his may have been worse while on the medication. He is not ripping up his papers in class and actually started to make friends. My son was also diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome while on this medication. He has this, I know, however his anti-social behavior was NOT from the syndrome. Once we took him off Singulair he became more confident, and outgoing. He has a new outlook on things and is trying new things like he never did before.
His allergist is writing a report to MERCK and to the American College of Allergists. He can not believe the change. It made him so sad to hear all we have been through.
People are beginning to listen. Keep up the good work!
