I wrote an earlier post but I am now reading alot of your posts where you say your child experienced FEAR on Singulair. That is so interesting. When my son was on it for around 3 years he would never sleep alone in his own bed and he would have episodes every night that would last up to 3 hours at bed time because I would try to get him to sleep in his own bed, even at 8 years old. I thought he was possessed!!!! He would scream and fight me and I would literally have to hold him down to get him to stay in bed. It was horrible. I'm not sure how a hullicination would be described but maybe that was part of it. All I know is that he turned into a totally different child. It was something out of a horror movie. I eventually gave up and let him sleep in our bed cause it was exhausting. He would just make blood curdling screams and the terror in his eyes was horrific. Then the next morning he would be fine like nothing had ever happened. Now that he is off of Singulair he will sleep in his own bed with the light off all night. It was an amazing turn around. He also told me he's not scarred anymore.. Who knew????? Has anyone else experienced anything like that with their child????

We all have! I don't know how far you've read back but go back to April 1st at least and get a box of Kleenex b/c you will need it. My son has his good nights and bad nights. No more nighmares but still unsure so now he is making up reasons why he can't go to sleep - last night he said "mom, I know why I can't go to sleep - b/c I haven't seen the moon outside yet" Whenever there would be a full moon, we would turn out the lights and just look at it! This morning at 5:30, he came and jumped in our bed and went right back to sleep. I'm going to give it another few nights and hope it ends! Keep us posted and hang in there!

We experienced something very similar with our daughter. She was on Singulair for over 3 years and has been off for 10 days. In the last 6 months or more, she had developed unexplained fears which cropped up at bedtime/night especially. She also seemed possessed at times; it was truly frightening to watch. I think that some of this fear comes from the vivid dreams/nightmares that people get on this drug. One of her fears was specifically linked to a horrible dream she had; it seemed so real that she became obsessively worried that she'd dream it again. Writing this, I realize that this "side effect" is like a bad horror film!

You may have read my earlier post, if so I apologize. My son began taking Singulair between the age of 3-4 yrs. old and continued on the meds. until he was seven and a half years old. This past Decemeber the allergist took him off Singulair to see if it was causing the horrible headaches that he has been experiencing the past 2 yrs. Unfortunately, we've seen no decrease in the headaches. However, I recently realized that he was no longer having horrible nightmares/night terrors. He has never been afraid to go to sleep unlike your son but once he was asleep, it was sometimes bizarre. He would wake up 2-3 nights a week (usually after being in bed between 1-2hrs) crying out. Of course I would go to him and he would be sweaty, hair ringing wet, and you could see fear in his eyes. His chin would quiver and sometimes he would grit his teet. He would cry and talk to me but nothing made any sense. I would talk to him until he'd lay back down and he would never remember these episodes the next morning. I stated to a friend recently that he must have outgrown this "phase." But when I started reading all these posts about Singulair I really feel like he is sleeping better because he isn't on the Singulair.

Thank you so much for your posting. This sounds just like our son. He has been on singulair on and off since he was 3 and is now 8 1/2. He has had these night frets and nightmares as you described. It would take kim hours of laying in his own room to finally fall asleep. AFRAID! Most of the time we just give up and let him come to our bed. He has rarely slept alone in his entire life. Only recently has he started getting more independent, (We thought).

I am continuing my post, I got cut off somehow. My son seemed to be getting more independent lately. Sleeping in his own bed more often. But, now I can see that It is more than likely that He hasn't been taking Singulair because his alergies have gotten so much better. He seems to be growing out of them. So, we have stopped the everyday regimine. He was also having trouble in school, paying attention, finishing tasks. Now even his teacher is in awe of him. She says he is like a different child. It makes me so mad that we have been feeding this medicine to our child all these years and it has been torturing his mind all this time. Will this be something that will haunt his memories of his childhood? Also, when his alergies do kick in again, How will I know what to give him that I can trust?
