My daughter took singulair for a number of years because she was asthmatic and the doctor recommended that she takes one each a day. At 13 she started acting differently and I thought it was just growing up and being a rebellious teenager. I later found track mark on her arms and she was hospitalized under suicide watch. She was not allowed in school until she had numerous therapy sessions. On top of everything she was giving topamax to control her anxiety and depression and now missed so much school that she has graduate a year later.

I have posted previously but thought I would add my thoughts related to your situation. My 15 yr. old daughter started taking singulair at age 5 I think. Around the time puberty hit (12 or 13....) her personality changed drastically which I thought must be related to hormones. However since November she missed so much school related to illnesses, SEVERE menstrual problems, and anxiety related to missing so much school I just had to withdraw her and she is currently taking classes through the independent study division. Her pediatrician had suggested she was bipolar, and recommended therapy. She stopped taking singulair about 2 weeks ago, after she saw the story on CNN. I can see an improvement in behavior but think it will take awhile to be out of her system, and I am really worried that her asthma will flare. I really wish we had some answers.

Sorry to hear about your daughter, but in actuality, the mood changes on singulair would have been immediate, rather than long term. In other words, after several days or even a week, you should have noticed behavioural changes, not several years later.
Chances are, her emotional instability had nothing to do with singulair. Maybe a change in the company she kept, are problems at home or school triggered her suicidal tendencies. Don't be so quick to blame medications for everything.

How would you feel if you had no seen reports that confirmed that others believed in psychiatric side effects of Singulair. You might listen to Svengali -imh0560 who must believe that we must all be good little people and take our pills. I'd rather send Merck the money in a check than go crazy.
