My now 16 year old started cutting her legs about a year after starting singulair. Her grades had dropped, she withdrew from family and friends, she had to be taken to the emergency room and given medicine for anxiety attacks and headaches. Her psychiatrist gave her Fluoxetine, but it did not help. Lowering her dose of singulair (because her ashma was better) did help the cutting. She was missing school because she did not feel well most of the time. We also noticed tremors of the hands and feet. She took it for 4.5 years and has been off 2 weeks now. I am seeing an improvement, but will she return to her old self after so much time.
You can't know what it means to us on this website to have help. I posted on March 28th after we immediately took my granddaughter off of Singulair. The sad unbelievable fact is that so mnay of us never suspected Singulair and neither did our doctors or therapists. We just never connected an allergy medication to psychiatric problems. In 2006 my 9-year old granddaughter started on the drug, she became anxious, sad moody and agitated easily but we thought she was "going through something" and tried to deal with it and comfort her as much as we could. However, within 2 months right before her 10th birthday her mother called me to repost physical, self destructive behavior(it's too painful to even talk about) We took her to a counselor who used talk therapy for several months, her explanation was that they had moved to the country at the end of the school year and she was having a hard time adjusting. We are a close, loving family. For 2 years we have kept a close eye on her but it's been very, very crazy. At one point I remember my daughter saying that her daughter was miserable, and terribly depressed. When the story broke, it was as if a miracle happened. She has been off 2 1/2 weeks and already is calmer, less angry and actually has joked with me. I am getting the records from the doctors and the counselor together now and may have questions for you after I look everything over. Mostly, we're just concerned that this will have long term effects, since she is almost 12 now and is going through puberty could that have affected her physical changes?
I called my attorney right away (as you can see by the post he left). Hes already started investigating this because of the clients wehave and he'll be in touch with our medical staff too to see if this is something that can be proved-- just like ive heard alot of you guys mention that you weren't sure if it was teenage hormones...etc. The drug company lawyers jump all over that stuff (i know--its disgusting). I have bookmarked this page so i can update as soon as I hear something and tell you guys what rights you have in this situation. I am just still very horrified at this and my heart breaks for all of you.
I have documented proof of suicidal thoughts with a psychologist, psychiatrist, and school counselor for my son who is only eight. He first said he would throw himself off of our staircase at the age of 5. Since then he has said numerous times that he just should not be here and he wanted to kill himself. My husband and I have worried that once he was old enough, he would do it and we felt helpless. He started on singulair right after turning four. I am interested in anything you can do. Thanks for helping out.
I wanted to put my son back on it & tape him But I just cant bring myself to torture him again :( I do have proof through his psy. & family members who now all see a diff boy Our sit. is a lil tricky though b/c my son who is 11 is poss. Bipolar & has ADHD since age 4 But Singulair made all of his symptoms 10X worse!!! he was on it for almost a yr we did several adhd med. changes & nothing worked b/c the he was still taking singulair

Thanks
Kristina
My boss has been in contact with all of the top law firms in the NJ & PA area. We want to make sure that we give you info thats actually going to help and not send you to some bloodsucker. When you file an injury suit, there is no money out of pocket. The lawyers only get paid if you win your trial or the case settles (so if you loose-- u dont loose anything either). And as a heads up, if this is something that can be proven to a jury, the suits take fooorrrrever. I think that is the worst part for the families that I personally have dealt with regarding liability suits-- u want closure and you want answers but it takes so long to get them!
IS there any updates on these cases?
