My son was on singulair for 3.5 yrs, i stop him cold turkey 2 weeks ago,the improvment in his personality was immediate, but 2 days later i noticed that croupy cough,i took him straight to peds doc who said his lungs were clear, obviously the meds do there job for asthma and allergys but the side effects are only something you have to personally decide as to weather you can take them.It was my experience that they got worse with time.1.5 yrs into it was a complete breakdown and a stay at hospital for depression, he was 12 then

My son too went cold turkey and the changes in his leg pain immediate, stomach issues for about a week after removal of drug. Worst part for us was the croupy cough (very bad) and he ended up in the ER. He never had asthma before singulair but now is diagnosed with it and on 2 new meds. After reading Flindy's email - maybe it is all part of getting the drug out of his system. He will be on flovent a week tommorrow 2x daily with Albuterol if his cough get real bad. If I had to pick - I'll take the asthma over the little boy we didn't know! Keep us posted and hang in there!

My son stopped taking it about 18 days ago cold turkey. Noticed immediate improvement, change in attitude like fog was lifted from his head. He too suffered allergy symptons but we have been using mucinex to thin mucus in sinus and that has seemed to help prevent it from going down into chest.. I took him last night to see his Dr to make sure. His lungs were clear and oxygen level was 100%. He had slight red throat. She agreed with my decision to take him off and wants me to keep her updated in next few weeks. He has been very emmotional this last week, When he was on singulair nothing ever seemed to bother him. Its like he is feeling emmotion now and has to become accustomed to feeling again. Every day not on it is a day closer to getting back my happy boy!
