Just wondering...How long had you been taking Yaz? What were your symptoms that lead you to seek medical help?
Cutezee--
Not sure about the original poster, but my symptoms were so slight that I didn't seek medical attention for awhile. Looking back, I had some slight shortness of breath when exercising weeks before I went to the ER. I had a cough (which may have been a cold-related) and the thing that sent me to the ER was a full day of what I thought were abdominal pains. The only reason I went to the ER was that it was after 9pm and I was supposed to get on a 3 hour plane trip the next morning. I had no idea what I had was that serious. I ended up in ICU for 3 days and the hospital for 2 more.
I was just diagnosed with a several pulmonary embolisms on both sides of my lungs, presumably from a large clot that broke into smaller pieces (which I am lucky for) and presumably caused at least partially by the BCP Yaz. I was in the hospital for a few days and now will be on anti-coagulant therapy for many months. I really didn't have many symptoms. Just some rib pain (felt like I bruised/strained or even broke a rib but now we know that I had some of my lung tissue die from being blocked off from a clot and that is what caused the pain), some pain when I took in a deep breath, and some slight abdominal pain. One of my doctors in our smaller hosptial told me she has seen 5 young women recently who had gotten pulmonary embolisms and all had been on Yaz, Interesting. Be careful.
I have been on yaz for a full year. Around the first of October I started noticing some strange pain in my left leg. I ended up going off of the pill about a week later because my husband and I want to have another baby. I just went to the Doc today for the pain in my leg that will still not go away. I will be doing an ultrasound this afternoon. I hope its not a clot. I do know that since going off the pill, I have been extremely tired and had every pregnancy symptom out there. Headaches, dizziness, sick stomach, constantly hungry...however, I am NOT pregnant. Come to find out all of the symptoms of going off of the Yaz birth control. I will not take YAZ ever again. In August of 2008 I got perscribed to Yaz by my Dermatologist for acne. In November of 2008, (3 months later) I woke up one Monday morning with shortness of breath and severe pain when taking a deep breath. I let this problem go for 4 days until it became unbearable. I went to the hospital and ended up have a very large PE in my right lung. I was in the ICU for 5 days and the hopital for another 7. After I got out I was put on the blood thinner Arixtra which is a daily injection. I did that for 6 months and then switched to coumadin for another 6 months. This was the worst experience in my life..Now thanks to Yaz I will never be able to take birth control and I am scarred for life after being told I should be dead due to the size of my clot. They contemplated doing open heart surgery to remove it, or just let my body take care of it..which it did will alot of help from a heparin drip in a central line in my neck. I was 17 at the time this happened..and I would have never thought this could happen..but it did. DONT TAKE YAZ.. a friend of mine a year later got a PE and luckily she called me asking about my symptoms so she was able to catch it early.
