I've been on Synthroid for 8 months after gaining 10 pounds in two months. The symptoms started to appear when my Mom was very ill. Doctor said it was caused by stress and started me on 25 mcg of Synthroid. My reading at that time was 5.56. I had blood work done every 4 weeks, and the numbers are going down (1.8 last reading), but so is the quantity of my hair, which I see all over my white tile. My weight hasn't budged even though I am dieting. My doctor upped me to 100 mcgs. My blood work is not good - low white count, low lymphocytes, borderline anemic. Mom died, and I didn't get any better. I feel sick all the time and it's difficult for my husband to understand how bad I feel. I've tried to get my doctor to prescrive Armour, but he doesn't even return my phone calls. When I see him in the office, he keeps telling me it takes time. I hate living this way and want to stop the pills completely.

Feel your pain. You aren't alone and it's real - at least it feels real to me too. I've been on Synthroid for 3 years, since my yougest child was born. For three years I have felt like crap - varying degrees of crap, but still crap. I am constantly fatigued to the point where I can't function. This severe symptoms comes and goes but I never feel what I would consider good. My levels are up and down. 3 months ago being over medicated and my dose dropped to .75 and now it's up to 112mcgs. I don't get it. I see my doc in a couple of days - she has mentioned alternatives including the Armour and I want to try anything that is NOT Synthroid. My weight hasn't moved in 3 years with an extremely healthy diet and whatever exercise I can fit in when I'm not dragging my weary carcass around and just trying to get through the days.
I don't know, my doctor has been slow in presenting options to me but she is willing to allow me to try things when I bring in all the papers with all the research I've done. I would suggest a doctor that's a little more open to letting you decide what you need to do. My doctor says that not every person is the same and not every medication is going to work the same on every person. Maybe a new doc? Maybe a new med? I'd like to know what kind of time your doctor thinks it takes. I've got 3 years in and feel worse since starting the Synthroid! That's 3 years of my life feeling lousy. How much longer ?

Well like you, I went from bad to worse. I started Lupus like symptoms and all over joint pain, and muscle pain, chest pain, as time went on. I finely linked it all to the synthroid and cytomel and have been off it 2 months now and my numbers are great and Im slowly walking again and my hair is shinny again and my energy is better. MY Dr told me none of this was due to synthroid and I just went off it one day and Im getting better. I thought for sure I would go way low in my numbers and I didnt! MY thyroid is fine! My Dr didnt even know I went off it till I told him and he was shocked. Doing natural medications and eating for my thyroid now and this auto immune lupus thing that Im fighting since the medcations. Yes you can get your life back I slowly am. I hope you never have to get as sick as I did! I lost the best job of my life, I walked with a cain and was bed ridden for weeks, weight gain, heart , rash etc. I do know all about how husbands act too they think its all in your head cause you look no diffrent right? UGH! email me we can talk girlfriend!

I keep trying to put mind over matter and believe it when the endocrinologist tells me that synthroid isnt the thing thats making feel like varying degrees of crap everyday. I have been on synthroid for about 7 months now after partial thyroid removal (or what they told me was cancer ..but i have my doubts< i felt fine b4 all of this &i've gotten so many differrent opinoins bc pathology isnt much more than someones professoinal opinion so i've found out).anyway, i have gained about 20 lbs, often fatigued, various muscle cramps...even down my sides& stomach muscles...i cant think straight and am often confues which isnt such a good quality to have as a teacher. i keep waiting for things to get back to normal but...idk maybe its wishful thinking? im on 88mcg & doc says i am fine bc all levels r back to wherer they were pre-surgery..says if i am tired its not from the thyroid & have regular doc look into other possiblilitis but i never felt this way until this surgery & this drug were introduced to my body...am i wrong in thinking is a clue to the way i feel? then y is the doctor sooo sure of himself?? waiting.....

So sorry to hear about your mother. The very same thing happened to me, symptoms of hypothyroid appeared during my mom's illness and immediately after her death. I am now on .112 of Synthroid. My husband is dealing with my depression and all of the symptoms of the disease as well, tell your husband that he is not alone. Mom's been gone now for a year and a half but I just lost my brother to cancer a few months ago. Stress does change the way our bodies behave...God bless you in your journey and may you find peace in your life. I know things will level out for you but you have to give yourself the time to grieve.
