I am 25 and I take 10mg of adderall everyday for adult add. It makes me cranky, parched (dry mouth) and I'm never hungry. Part of the agitation comes from suddenly feeling focused, so focused that anything that is not focused like you is irritating. 50mg seems like a lot for such a small girl. I have found that if I eat right before I take it and I force myself to eat throughout the day (especially something like bread) it helps to make me less cranky. It's not easy to do but it will help. Also, drink LOTS of water! Prolonged dry mouth can cause cavities in your teeth. Maybe talk to your Dr. and parents about putting you on something a little less strong.
But I wouldn't recommend ditching the drug completely. I have had ADD my whole life but didn't start taking adderall until last year. I was blown away by what I had been missing! I had ALWAYS struggled in school but if I could go back and do it all again knowing what I know now I would do so much better.
I had the same problem as a child when I took Ritalin. Even though I was young, I decided that if I was agitated then I probably should not be on it. I tried other drugs and Dexadrine was my favorite, but unfortunately your body tends to need more over time, so I ended up needing to quit that drug too. I have now been on Adderall for.. well, many years- I dont know how long exactly. BUT I realllly think I need to get off of it! I am 31 years old and have been taking Rxs for overwhelming ADHD since I was THREE. I believe I am TRULY one of those kids that had REAL ADHD, not one that was just too much for adults to handle. It was AWFUL! My parents tried many things to avoid drugging their child, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do if nothing else is working. I am a firm believer in quality of life, not quantity, but I have to say, hon.. I think these drugs have taken a toll on my mind and health. I dont know if I will ever feel "normal" again. So, I would consider going to a school that specializes in ADD/ADHD kids/education. I've heard wonderful things about these schools and have met wonderful, fully functioning adults NOT on drugs. These schools teach you how to dead with your adhd, in all areas of life. If I have a child like me I will try to send them to one of these schools because it teaches them how to happily live the rest of their lives. :) Unfortunately, I dont think I should have children because the drugs have screwed up my body and I do not want my child to have even more problems than I did. I take Welbutrin now and am SO GRATEFUL for it!!! I take it for crippling anxiety but many people take it for ADHD. I wish they'd had it when I was growing up, maybe I wouldnt be in the mess I'm in now. Good luck, hun!
I'm 15 years old and I have been taking Adderal for about two weeks (adhd).I take 20mg in the AM and 20mg at NOON...40mg a day. The two weeks that I have been on this med i have not been hungry that much but i have been really thirsty. To me thats a good thing(im overweight for my age). I went from 191 to 185 in a week and a half, But theres one more big problem!!! I GET SOOooo IRRITABLE WHEN IT STARTS TO WEAR OFF! Not only does it effect me but it effects the people around me also.
my doc told my mom when she or i knows the med it about to wear off make sure i am active or doing something productive. i just be filling like throwing things, saying hurtful things to people and i have been very rude. but other than that big problem Adderal is going great so fair. They see improvemet in my grades and my additude towards my peers. ANYM0R3 ID3AS PL3AS3 R3PLY....HOOLA!!!!
