Hang in there until you can get to your doctor. I was only on the generic for 2 1/2 months before I pin pointed the med. My doctor was hesitant to blame the med but it was the only thing I was taking. Even after I stopped taking it and symptoms similar to yours went away he still didn't believe it was the med but instead blamed it on my anxiety (which I never had before taking the med!). Please be aware it takes time for it to get out of your system so try and be patient! Prayer worked A LOT For me! Take care!
Good morning to you vkb719 :)
Thank you so much for your post. I'm having a really difficult time lately. My concentration is shot, anxious all the time, I think I have a sympton that NOBODY else has typed about. Not only do I have nightmares ever single night ( that seems to be a common occurence) but I have 'bad thoughts' ....by that I mean I "wish" for, for a lack of a better way to say it bad things to happen to the people I care about the most :*( Which in turn makes me cry-A LOT! and makes me feel unworthy of their love. Now, to people who don't know me and read this, they'll think " wow, this one really is off her rocker " trust me , that's not the case. Since all of these physical and mental changes, I've increased the dosage of my Xanax to 2 pills at a time ( 1.0 mg each). I take them to counteract the effects of the ToprolXL that I've been experiencing. Doctor's "USE" my anxiety disorder and depression for the reasons why I feel the way I do. I also get a HARD time because I go through more Xanax than I ever did before! That's because the up-ed (word/spelling?) my dosage from 50 to 100 mg---W/O a physical just because I called to say one day that my heart felt as though it was racing.
It wasn't until I came on line and onto this board in particular that I found people that have similar problems. If got a lot of things going on in my life ( like many others do) it makes the physical symptoms even more difficult to cope with. I think how can I take care of my mother when I don't feel well myself ? :( There's a domino effect. I wish I had the knowledge and power to bring the pharmaceutical company to it's knees where we ALLare now ---But we're the one's PRAYING to feel better and for nothing WORSE to happen to us. Thanks for reading me.
Apologizes once again to all on the board. I've made a lot of typos in my posts. It's obvious that my concentration, spelling and ability to think clearly to type anything that can be understood is directly because of the ToprolXL. I thought for a long time I was losing my vision too :( I do wear glasses but I've never experienced this type of vision change ever!
My thirst-- I told my doctor yesterday that my thirst is never quenched. NO REPLY!!!!!
I ask a pharmacist questions, they say, that " most people tolerate ToprolXL and the generic well " and that's it.. Meanwhile I feel as though
my heatlh ( both physical and mental) are suffering from the effects of this medication. I don't know what to do or who to turn to anymore.. I should have called myself DESPERATE! b/c I am frustrated and scared to death now to switch to another medication after reading about coming off this particular drug.
Any/all replies would be appreciated.
Good Luck to everyone on here!
Many blessings.
I experienced all the symptoms you described. I am 36 years old and I was put on Metoprolol for High BP. Toprol-XL is the controlled release version of metoprolol, but is not the same thing as "metoprolol." My chest was tight, I was very tired, numbness and tingling in legs. I had panic attacks and depression. I was on them for a little over 2 months. I am currently off of meds. I was taking 100 mg. I cut it down to 50, then the cardio Doc told me to just quit taking them and that was April 3. It was rough coming off but right now I feel fine. It took about 10-11 days for me to start feeling "normal" again. I wish you the best.
I had the same doctor for 10 years and I always liked and trusted him. I think, however, his judgment and diagnosis was way off while I went through this nightmare. He assumed it was my nerves (which I never had a problem with before) and told me to see a psychiatrist for my hypochondria. He added that most women experience a "down" time around my age (39)! I was so angry. After many complaints, he changed my BP medicine to Atenolol. Looking back, I think that I could have probably tolerated it and what I was experiencing was withdrawals from Metoprolol. He finally out of exasperation took me of all BP med's cold turkey which from everything I have read is a big NO NO! It was terrible coming off and I really thought I was going to die. I never called him back and went to a different doc when I had back to back sinus infection caused by the bronchiospasms I had while on the Metoprolol.
My vision is not what it was and I am going to go have an eye examination soon. Can't decide if it is just age related or medicine related but I can't stand it. As of now, I am on no meds other than vitamins. Hang in there and get someone who will listen to you!
Take care
