I've never written on a blog in my life, and now that I've just read this, my stomach is doing flip flops and my blood is runnung cold. I have an 11 year old son and a 9 year old daughter. They have both been on singulair for quite a few years. My son has been on ADHD meds now since about a year and a half after starting Singulair because we tried to avoid them. Every few weeks he tells me he has this empty feeling inside him that makes him really sad and he doesn't know what it is. It just feels empty. I'll usually read with him or play a game or walk our dog with him to help him feel better. As for my daughter, she exhibits all of the symptoms I have read about. She talks about life being terrible( trust me, she has it pretty good), she has been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, OCD and Tourette Syndrome. Every psychiatric medication we have tried has made her worse. She was always a confident, outgoing little girl, and then she just changed. She's had stomach aches, which the docs always thought were in her head. She gets headaches. She is extremely sensitive, won't let me even brush her hair or touch her. She has extreme mood swings and gets upset over the most miniscule things, then writes about them, even saying she realizes her anger was too much for what the situation was! I will stop Singulair immediately and see what happens. What a miracle it would be if all of their symptoms disappeared.

OH MY GOODNESS. Not that I am proficient in the medical field, I would, however, advise your Medical Doctor that you are doing this. Hopefully, he can suggest or prescribe another drug. I do know that it takes over 72 hours, for this medication to work its way out of the body. PLEASE, talk with your MD before doing this. Best of luck to you and the children.

I know exactly how you feel.I have never written on a blog before either. My 2 girls were on this for 4-5 years. My girls had numerous side effects also.I had stated them on this site.Thank god you found this site. The ALARMING thing is so many people are still on singuliar and they are clueless as to the many horrific side effects it causes. Please spread the word. You will see positive changes in your children as I did.Keep the faith.

Please keep us posted! My son has been off of it for almost 3 weeks, we have had remarkable improvement at home. It is like he came out of a fog and matured 1-2 yrs in 3 weeks.. He always acted younger than his age. Since the fog has been lifted he can now be reasoned with and talked out of tantrums before they happen. We are putting off the adhd evaluation for a little while to give him time to adjust to the new him and thinking clearer. Come join us at

and keep us posted! We visited my sons Dr and she supported us in our decision and wants to monitor him for positive changes, She may reccomend to some of her other patients who are dealing with similar situation of our experience.

You are not alone! My 8 year old daughter has now been off singulair for 17 days. For the first time in 2 years, I have my daughter back. Within 3 days of being off the Singulair her appetite returned. She started smiling and laughing again. She hasn't had a single "melt-down" since being off the medicine (which before was a daily occurance). I honestly feel like this web site has been an answer to prayers. Two days before learning about this site, my pediatrician recommended that my daughter see a psychiatrist. For the past two years, she has experienced most of the side-effects reported by other parents, especially stomach pain, anxiety and depression. Before singulair she was a happy, loving, and well adjusted little girl. I never suspected singulair. Instead we visited two different pediatric GI doctors and an orthopedic surgeon ( because of the leg pain she was experiencing). I just sat and cried when I read what so many other children and parents have experienced. It was our life. Please take some time to contact the FDA to report your experience. It makes me so sad to think how many families are still suffering. Best of luck to you and your family.
