I've had my Mirena IUD for approx. 3-4 months. It's lasting for over 1 week. Also, yesterday and today I've had heavy bleeding and blood clots. I was a bit surprised to notice this considering the Mirena is supposed to lighten your menstrual flow. I have fibroids and my gynecologist inserted the Mirena to lighten the bleeding. However, my period is heavier now and lasting going in to two weeks. I left a message for my doctor to contact me so I can speak with him about this. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this

I am getting the Mirena IUD inserted in a few days, but what I have been reading online a lot, is that it takes up to six months for your period to regulate, or hopefully stop all together by then. When I was on Yasmin birth control, it made my bleeding uncontrollable and impossible to handle. I feel your worry, and I hope everything goes well for you. It's a good thing that you contacted your doctor's office.
