Hi. Yeah, I started taking Yasmin in 2007, and took it for about a year. I broke up with my boyfriend, so I decided that I wanted to discontinue taking it. About a month later, I noticed my skin breaking out a lot,and it became excessively oily. When I was on the pill, my skin was just like they said it would be, and I rarely had any pimples the whole time I was on it. Aside from getting oily skin and very noticible breakouts, I gained weight too. I gained around 15lbs! I freaked out! My diet didn't change any so I assumed it was due to my stopping birth control.
I also almost completely lost my sex drive. I never wanted to have sex on Yasmin. It became almost a chore to get things going (it was really hard for me to lubricate, when prior to the pill, it was NEVER an issue), and it wasn't as enjoyable. Lastly, Yasmin causes me to have weird pains in my lower abdomen. I never had them before I started taking it. It kinda feels like i'm having menstrul cramps, but it's almost all the time. Weird, I know.
I started taking the pill again about 3 months ago, and my breakouts have ceased, and I've started losing weight again. But I'm gonna go off it for good this time. I miss actually wanting to have sex. I rarely get the urge anymore. And I guess I can just use something like Proactive Solution for my breakouts. That's really the only reason I'm on the pill now anyway.
I hope this is helpful.
Hi Sondi,
I have so far gained about 4 pounds and I was thinking I would lose weight after stop taking the pill. I guess I was wrong. All the other times I stopped taking other types of the pill I lost weight. Its too bad doctors don't know all these side effects and we have to act like doctors to find out what is wrong with us. So far the only plus about stop taking the pill is a sex drive again. How ironic.
Hope things work out for you.
Hi...my daughter took Yasmin for about 6 months and went off it in January. The headaches, mood swings and digestive issues plagued her almost from the onset of taking Yasmin.
Unfortunately, she also was left 18 lbs overweight after going off Yasmin. She learned that Yasmin is a diuretic and that while you are on it you don't get the water weight gain...after you go off it the water weight and bloat come back two fold! She has had to change her diet to a mostly low carb, low fat high protein one and watch her intake of sodium and still has about 10 more lbs to go.
Whole grains and more fiber have helped also...the good news is that her moods are better and she seems more like the girl I once knew before taking Yasmin! Good luck to you and have patience with weight...it will come off but might take 6 months or so.
Well , I got my first period after stop taking Yasmine. It was actually right on time and I'm so happy to announce I didn't have a migrane for the first time in 3 years! My family has noticed a change in me. I' m relieved that I found out what was causing my horrible headaches. I can start having a life again. The only real down fall is this extra weight. Not enjoying that part too much. Has anyone noticed hairloss after stop taking Yasmine??I'm not going bald but I'm noticing that my hair is falling out more. It may be that seasonal shed.
I was on Yasmin for 5 years. I decided to get off of it because I was getting migraines very frequently (including ocular migraines) which were accompanied by nausea and vomiting. I also lost my sex drive completely. Since I've been off of Yasmin (about 5 weeks ago) I have gained over 5 pounds and feel terribly bloated. I'm nervous that I won't be able to take the weight off. Does it get better eventually? I eat well and work out every day.
One more thing (in addition to the posting above)...on a good note, I haven't had one headache since I got off of Yasmin. That is a relief! Hopefully the weight gain and bloating will level off eventually....
