Hi. I was put on Singulair toward the end of February. At the beginning of March I started getting hives all over my body and becoming very itchy for no reason at all. The allergist said it couldn't have been from the medicine. The frequency of the hives/itchiness have slowed, but I still get them. I was also getting a little dizzy when I'd put my hed back or lay down, but I knew that was one of the side effect. But, the past several days, I've been getting very dizzy when I walk. I'm worried this is from the Singulair -- nothing else has changed. Could these effects show up after a month? My allergist doesn't seem too concerned, but I am.

How could your allergist NOT be concerned by your being very dizzy??? I'd certainly be concerned. When would s/he choose to start worrying? After you fall and injure yourself or after a car accident? Dizziness is a possible side effect of Singulair - see Mayo Clinic post. Good luck.

I don't know what the reason is that you were given Singulair. If there is any reason that you might have a life threatening asthma attack, then be prepared to go to the hospital and stop Singulair immediately. Hives are listed as a reason to stop treatment. You are now getting dizzy. What's next - a seizure?

From what I have seen with my daughter , the effects of Singulair get worse the longer you are on it. Hives are a definite serious indicator that you are allergic to this med. Please stop Singulair before it gets worse. Doctors are completely in the dark about this medicine.

Hives and itching are in Allergy 101. It's like a doctor says- after you report that you have been eating peanuts and got hives- that it cannot be peanuts because peanuts are well-tolerated by the major of people.

It is listed in the flyer with the singulair that you should not take it if you are allergic to montelukast or any of the fillers. Obviously there is a possibility of allergy to it. I would find a new allergist. I took my son to one a few years ago who turned out to be a total quack, he did not test allergic to half of the things he was allergic to including tree nuts. We moved and he was retested and we found out he was allergic to lots of things that were not included in his serum from the previous allergist. I would get a second opinion. Good luck.

Just an update --- after I told her about the dizziness I started having and the thoughts of just not caring about stuff, she told me to stop it. But, she insists the hives and itching could absolutely not be from the medicine. I think she is totally wrong and faught with her about it. Ugh! Does anyone know how long it takes to get singulair out of your system. She wants to try me on other stuff, but I want to wait till I'm sure this drug is out of my system!
