After starting Advair last Nov. I suddenly had so much pain in legs and arms. Difficult to walk or lift anything. This pain continued until spring when I demanded a diagnosis. It was diagnosed as polymyalgia rheumatica. They do not know what causes it. I already had fibromyalgia. After prednisone for one day ALL pain and stiffness disappeared and I need to take prednisone for one year. I noticed others with fibromyalgia had much increased pain after Advair

Hi, I've been on Advair for at least 10 years. After having asthma for over 50 years It was wonderful, one puff a day and asthma symptoms were gone! In the meantime I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia due to severe, unrelenting muscle and joint pain. Like you stated, one day of prednisone took the pain away, as did Vioxx (which of course is now unavailable). I'm allergic to all the other NSAIDS. Recently, my pain became so bad I decided to stop the Advair and switch to another inhaled steroid without the salmeterol. After 2 weeks off Advair, my asthma is a little touchy again, however my pain is reduced by at least 75%! My research showed that salmeterol also affect the joints/cartilege and I was recently diagnosed with sudden onset bil. knee joint deteriation. My orthopedist is not so sure salmeterol is the cause but I wonder.
Thanks for sharing your experience and maybe mine will help someone too. Still working LPN.
