The difference here chris is that these side effects were listed and when or if we became suspicious of them we could make the descion not to take them,,,, unlike singulair where the side effects were hidden from us ,doctors and fda. thanks for your research
Yes, all drugs have possible side effects. We are not a bunch of idiots. Many people posting on this site were able to figure out the nasty (NOT "mild", as stated in the current Singulair commercial) unintended effects ("side" seems to down-play it) of Singulair because it WAS the only drug taken or the new drug added. Also, Chris, as a "public service", please check that you are finding side effects for Claritin, not Claritin-D - which I believe (like other decongestants) is the one related to hypertension. Just because many drugs, over-the-counter or otherwise, cause unintended effects does NOT minimize the findings/experience of many people on this site!
Chris... chris....chris... why must you continue your rantings to people who do not wish to hear them? You are a small person if you think what you are doing is constructive.
Chris - My complaint with Merck's current position is this: by referring to the cognitive side effects of Singulair as suicidality, they are presenting a straw man. They are limiting the scope of the side effect to the most tragic cases, and ignoring the many, many cases that have side effects such as the ones discussed here. That is how I was misled. I initially assumed that Singulair could not be causing the symptoms in our family because no one was suicidal.
If the proposed warning statement had words about mood disorders, rages, negative thinking, depression, motivation and attentional issues, in addition to the suicidality, I would not believe that this issue was being swept under the rug.
poorquilter,
You are RIGHT ON THE POINT. When I first heard about Singulair and suicide, I took a quick look at the range of complaints that you see on the internet. Then I concluded that Merck's public relation department was merely focusing on suicide in order to mislead everyone about the underlying problems.
