I don't know if seeing all these posts help me or scare the crap outta me even more (none the less very helpful), I have no insurance and really want to get my IUD removed. I had it inserted when my daughter was 8 weeks old that was about 11 months ago. I have had nothing but problems, severe cramping, nausea, periods that last a whole month, one month it will be icky brownish discharge with a lil blood here and there, I will stop for about 2 weeks and get it again this time lasting about 3 weeks then i will go about 6 weeks and have it again this time with severe cramping and bleeding for a whole month straight. then i may not have it again for 6 weeks etc... I have really nasty blood clots that look very fleshy. I also have had very thick yellowish stinky discharge everyday i don't have my period ( I have NEVER smelt this bad) I feel like im losing my mind Im so absent minded i forget the simplest things, my arms and legs go numb and tingly, my hair is falling out in clumps, im extremely moody and very impatient. and the tiredness is really starting to bother me, no matter how much i try to stay awake its almost impossible, i literally need to take a nap every 3 hours it seems like just to function...I feel like im falling apart. Has anyone else had a lot of these symptoms? And what should I do about getting it taken out....I don't qualify for Medicaid so I was wondering if i should just go into the hospital the next time the pain gets bad and see if they will remove it any advice will be helpful! And good luck to anyone else going through problems with this IUD.

The numbness in your arms and legs could be a sign that you have blood clots, which is extremely serious. I was charged $500 to get mine taken out and I still say it was the best money I ever spent! I regret having it put in and wish I had never done it!

I don't know if Planned Parenthood does exams or would remove it, but I know that they give you birth control and charge you based on your income. So you may want to see if that's an option.

I wish you luck!

The same thing has been occurring with me and the mirena. I have been bleeding non stop and ive had it in since my child was 6 weeks so now it is going on the 3rd month. My arms and legs have been numb and tingly as well. Lets not even mention my mood swings. Its as if i was pregnant all over again. My doctor claims that is not normal however everyone else who has gotten this iud have suffered from the same side effects.

I personally do not recommend taking it out yourself as it has been known to embed itself into the uterus. If it has done that and you pull it out that would be very bad. Mt bleeding on the Mirena was sooo very irregular, similar to yours. I have also had numbness and tingling in my arms and legs which can also be from anxiety, or in my case I see a chiro for back issues but also had very bad anxiety/panic attacks to the point of hyperventilating. I made numerous trips to the ER all the time them saying it is regular panic attacks! Yeah right caused by the Mirena.
Definately check and see if Planned Parenthood is in your area. I called them in my area and they told me it was $100 to get it removed, but they had no opening until at least June. :( I have very minimal insurance and bit the bullet and went to a GYN on 4/30/08 and had it taken out. I will just have to amke payments. It is worth knowing I am on the way to recovery although I have a little way to go til I am 100%.
Hope this helps and hang in there.

I went in for a 6 week check up and at that time it seemed everything was fine. Then a week later all the "monthly" symptoms hit me like a ton of bricks! I've has severe cramping, nausea, insomnia, fatigue, mood swings, irregular bleeding and for the most part it's like brown discharge and it smells awful too! I hadn't heard any bad effects except some cramping and at first that's all I experienced, but now after 2 months into it, it's really bad. I would NOTrecommend this to anyone who is sensitive to drugs or any other form of birth control. it's a foreign obeject in your body and for me it feels like my body is trying to get purge itself of it.

I have had all of the same experiences that you have with the Mirena, I have actually been using it for the same amount of time. I too have the frequent bleeding and the icky discharge. I was always so happy that I never had anything to worry about when it came to cleanlieness and now I am mortified at the fowl smell that has come into play. i am marrying the love of my life and I feel like I am ruining the great sex that we have because I am always so paranoid that I either stink of have my period. I am definately contimplating have mirena removed but I worried that if I remove it that I will bring on a world of other problems. I was once on depo provera and after I stopped using that I had my period for 3 months. I feel like I am facing a never ending battle.
