Hello! My name is Lisa and I had a HORRIBLE experience with Yaz. I took Yaz for 2 months after 3 months of Seasonique. I had switched because Seasonique made me extremely moody (all of a sudden I hated everyone on the planet). My OB gave me a few months worth of Yaz. Within weeks I noticed a strong stomach pain. I contacted my OB and he thought I just had a stomach virus. This pain continued on for several more weeks. I called my OB again and he just said, "The pill doesn't do that." I got a second opinion from another OB and he also agreed.... "The pill doesn't do that." Then out of desperation I made an appt with my Fam doctor and he diagnosed me with Gastritis.... said that he thought my diet was the cause of my pain. Uh, let me mention this.... this stomach pain is so severe you literally CAN'T eat anything cause if you do, 5 mins later you will be in SEVERE pain. To get a better picture of this pain just think of glass shards piercing through your stomach walls (I thought just maybe I was getting an ulcer). My Fam doctor gave me a months worth of Aciphex (which never never never helped at all) and I also saw him twice more in that month (which was my 2nd month of Yaz). He got so frustrated with me... it was Gastritis and if I wanted it to go away I had to be willing to make changes in my diet (I still was not eating and was losing weight) and also be patient enough for the Aciphex to take effect. Finally, out of frustration I quit Yaz. Within weeks my stomach pain was completely gone. Let me say this to all women reading this. I don't care what your OB says. There is no need to tolerate any pain from a medication.... especially when there are other options out there. To have a doc tell you to "wait it out for a few months" is ridiculous. To not be able to eat for days or even weeks is dangerous to your health. I eventually googled Yaz + Side Effects and found that the severe stomach pain I was having was a possible side effect and it even instructs you to tell your physician if you experience such pain. Why is it I opted to tell not 1 but 3 docs this and no-one would listen??????? Personally I would like to see all 3 docs lose their jobs because they should have known this. Ladies, tell anyone you know about this pill. Get the WORD out about this pill. I frequently go on Yahoo Answers and girls are always asking advice on birth control pills and I jump at every chance to spread the word. Let's get this pill OFF OF THE MARKET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm having similar side effects. I visited the family doctor, the gyno, urologist and gastro. The gastro gave me a colonoscopy and found nothing. Then he looked in my stomach and found chronic gastritis with byle in my stomach. I tried changing my diet and it helped a little. The family doctor suspected endometriosis and the gyno said no. And again, this pain is always everytime I eat and sometimes just for the heck of it. I still have a month on YAZ but then I will ask my gyno to change my prescription. I'm so glad you wrote this article. Thanks!

I had a similar experience. I took Yaz for about 3 months. One day, I started having really bad stomach pain. I figured it was something I ate. Next day, stomach pain again. The pain became worse every day. About a week after the onset of the pain it I started to wonder what was actually going on. I went to the doctor and had a few tests for things like parasites, bacterial infections... I have to wait about 2 weeks for the results. While waiting for the results, the pain was so bad I couldn't leave the house. I couldn't eat regularly and I was so weak I couldn't hardly get off the couch. I spoke with my gastro doc who said I probably had an infection. When the results finally came back from my tests they all turned out negative. Talked to my gastro doc again who was basically clueless and decided I needed a colonoscopy. I mentioned that I was taking Yaz to both sets of dr's I spoke with. Neither seemed to care. My pain started getting so bad I couldn't sleep at night and I had horrible headaches every day. I was dehydrated and weak. I finally talked to another dr. I told him my symptoms and that I was taking Yaz. All he said was BC can do some strange things. Believe it or not, that was the first time I started thinking it could be the Yaz. No other dr's were concerned so it never crossed my mind. I stopped talking Yaz and regained all of my energy within a week. DON'T TAKE YAZ. I gained the courage to try a different BC - the Nuva Ring. Been on it for quite some time now and no stomach pain.

FYI..I have been on YAZ for 3 weeks and have been suffering with severe symptoms: belching, nausea, diarhea, and epigastric pain. I did not associate it with the pill at first, kept thinking it was something else. It finally has gotten so bad that I called the pharmaceutical company who said that gastritis was reported in the trials but for some reason they do not list these side effects in the package insert. The pain is so bad that it radiates right through to my back. Thought I was going crazy....guess not!

Everyone, my 18 year old daughter has been on YAZ since October 2008. In December she started complaining about about stomach pain. I took her to the Family Doctor and after blood work they said it might be a virus or gastritis, they told her it would go away and to take Prilosec. Nothing helped so in April I took her to OBGYN, he did a peliv ultrasound and found nothing so he referred us to the Gastronenterologist. He did a sigmoidoscopy and an upper endoscopy and only found byle in her stomach. He put her on a powder to mix with juice to take twice a day to help bind her food. She is still in pain! After reading your messages I am now thinking it could be the YAZ and I stopped her from taking it immediately.
