I switched off levoxyl and went back to Synthroid to replace my thyroid hormone after i read in the AMA journal that the formula for Levoxyl was switched last fall (2007), because it wasn't staying in the system long enough. I had taken the med for many years, but beginning in the Fall, I started having a lot of bad symptoms - crankyness and general malaise. So, I changed the time of day that I took it to experiment, and was able to pinpoint when I took Levoxyl, I became crabby & negative. The change has made a difference. I also recommend asking to be supplemented with both T3 and T4 supplements - Cytomel Plus Synthroid. Too technical to go into...but got the script from UofC top MD in the field... and if you do look into this you will see why many people feel better by getting supplements of both hormones.
You are finding out why so MANY of us got off Levoxyl and ALL OTHER T4-only medications. T4 is a storage hormone. The body is NOT meant to live on a storage hormone alone. You need to look at the stop the thyroid madness website. It explains why Levoxyl and other meds like it do NOT work and what does. Armour works FAR better for me. www.stopthethyroidmadness.com
