The synthetic hormone...levonorgestrel...does inhibit ovulation. Here is a link for you to look at if you would like. http://www.drugs.com/mtm/levonorgestrel.html
Most birth controls work similarly. The Mirena may inhibit ovulation, but may not stop it completely. It almost comes across as if your reasoning to sway women from this product is only due to the fact that they may miscarry. Keep in mind...this happens in nature regularly. Many women become pregnant, but if it is unable to attach to the uterine lining for whatever reason, whether on a form of birth control or not, you will have a period and shed the embryo. You would need ot be pregnant for right around 2 months before it is considered a "fetus" and most will shed the unattached embryo long before it ever reached that point. We become angry with drug companies and doctors for misleading us as consumers. Let's be careful and not mislead people with statements like "You will get pregnant." There is no guarantee you will get pregnant, and we are all aware that there is that chance that we might. If your doctor misled you into believing that there was no chance of pregnancy...shame on him/her and you may want to consider finding a new doctor.
Good luck to you.
