Hi there. I am just past 3 months post-removal and I did indeed experience immediate relief of most of my symptoms. I have noticed in the last 2 weeks, though, that I am having some skin issues, although NOTHING like the cystic acne I was having with the Mirena...more like pre-period break outs. And my lower back has been killing me the last 2 days, out of the blue. I have not had a period, other than the 2 days of spotting after removal, in 4 months....but am now having hot flashes! I think the post-removal process is not necessarily linear in that it might get better and then worse for a while until your hormones readjust. Don't lose faith....it may just take a bit longer. Others have indicated 5-6 months until they feel "normal" again.
Hi! I am 1 month post-removal and although I never had the acne, I have gained a considerable amount of weight and haven't lost an ounce yet. My main problem was the dizziness that I still suffer from, just not as frequently. I had the Mirena for 8 months so I'm assuming that it will take at least that long to feel normal again. Good luck!
Hi. I am 3 weeks to the day post removal. My abdomen felt better immediately, my skin is clear now, I had my period 2 days after removal, for about 4 days, I still become over emotional, I feel less bloating on a day to day basis, but yet felt very bloated yesterday; and my body is still aching!! Oh, and I am still soooo so overly tired alot. I had mine in for just over 10 months and I am thinking like the other ladies; that it may take as long to return to normal as long as it was in. I know, I am frustrated with this too!!!!
Thanks for your responses, ladies! At least I know it's not just me. I had mine in for about 6 months before removal. I'm still going to keep my appoinment for the 2nd opinion in June anyways...at least to get establishe dwith a new practice and I think I'll ask to have my labs checked just to verify where I'm at now. Thanks again!

5 weeks post removal and the weight isn't completely gone. Give it time. Remember you are also building muscle if you are working out as much as you say you are. Drink lots of water with lemon and try asperagus it's a diuretic, too. I still have acne and I am somewhat emotional. I think it's a combination of the mirena leaving the body and the natural hormones trying to do their job. Are you on any birth control now? I am currently on none so my body is trying to do what it's supposed to do on it's own. Hang in there and remember it could take time.
No I'm not using any other form of birth control, just condoms for now. I asked the jerk GYN for a prescription for the Fem-cap while I was there having the Mirena removed, and he actually just said "I haven't fitted a diaphragm in 5 years, so call if you need anything else." And then he just left the room! I have no plans to use any form of hormonal birth control, and just my body back to normal. It's just still so frustrating. The damn side effects came almost instantaneously...I want them gone just as quickly! Patience is a virtue, I'm told...I just dont' have a whole lot of it lately. Thanks again to all! Appreciate your comments!
Hi,
I read your posting and felt compelled to write to you. I know how you are feeling. I feel the exact same way. It was like I wrote that myself.
Let me tell you about my recent experience.
I am 33. Recently gave birth to a healthy, now 3 month old boy. He came out perfect but I had severe complications with my heart after giving birth. I had Congestive Heart Failure after birth. It was caused by all the water I was retaining. An overload if you would. However, I was on my way to recovery and all seemed to be healing with time. At my 6 month check up with my OB, she advised me to look into birth control because of my age and the possible chances of heart failure reocurring with another baby. So, I went ahead and had the Mirena inserted. The pain after insertion was not anything to laugh at but it eased after a 800 mg Ibeprophen. Since then I have been spotting/draining if you please. It haaaas been awful. Other side affects: Hair loss (i hate that), moody, tired, sore and achey all over, acne, cramps, infection, weight gain, bloating need i go on?
I finally listened to my body and decided to get it removed. It has only been 1 day since I took it out. Now I am having a "NATURAL" period though it is very heavy. I had it in for a little over a month. I am so glad I took it out befor a year or several months. I know how you are feeling. That is why I wanted to write. To tell you that I know everything is crazy right now and you feel like crap and you can't wait for your body to get back to normal so your life can too. But I must tell you what I have realized. Give yourself some time. Stop pushing your body so hard, give it time to heal. Get a lot of sleep, eat good, take your vitamins, rest... You have to let your body recover from the inside out. I swear by it. Sleep and good food with plenty of water is what is going to heal you the fastest with "NO Side Affects". Dr's are certified educated guessers. Keep that in mind. Only you know your body. And to whoever else reads this SAY NO TO MIRENA!!!! The horemones are not local. They affect your whole body.
I hope you all get your health back. Godspeed.....
