I had a Mirena IUD inserted today, it was a horrible experience. It was very painful and literally felt it getting inside my uterus which was weird because the doctor had told me he had used topical anesthesia and I was not supposed to feel more than a menstrual cramp. At that moment I sensed something was WRONG. Right after the insertion he cut the string and did a vaginal check up and told me that the iud had PERFORATED my uterus and had to be removed RIGHT AWAY!!!! IT WAS UNBEARABLY PAINFUL, i HAD TO LAY DOWN FOR OVER HALF AN HOUR WITH DIZZINESS, LOW BLOOD PRESSURE AND SEVERE CRAMPING. He told me that my uerus will heal in about a month and we can try for another iud insertion then. YEAH RIGHT!! It is not worth the trauma and pain. I just wish that instead of researching "mirena iud" I would have researched " complications of Mirena iud".......I would have made a different more informed choice. I don't even know what will be the consequences of this perforation and I'm scared it will affect my fertility. And to think that my ob/gyn ( which I adore)didn't want to insert and iud on me and I changed doctors just to get this done to me!!!

So sorry to hear what you went through. Hopefully your body can heal quickly so you get back to your normal. We all have been hurt pretty badly by this mirena thing and i hope it's taken off the market quick before a really bad tragedy happens!

I had the same horrible experience. I had to have surgery to remove the free floating MIRENA 4 days after it was placed! Then I had complications from the surgery. I had to have numerous tests to determine my problems. (including a CT scan, which forced me to stop breast feeding my 7week old son) It was a very traumatizing ordeal.

I hate it. I have had it for about eight months now, and have not liked it since day one. I started breaking out like i was in high school again. I bled for the first two months STRAIGHT after having it inserted. I still get my period even though one of the strongest points my doc made was that I wouldn't get one at all. And when I do get my period, there is a foul odor along with it. Apparently there is a chanvce of Bacterial Vaginitis that come along with this thing. I will be calling my doc today to have it removed!
