I started using Zyrtec recently after my niece received it from her doctor as the solution to her allergies. (We bought it at the drug store). My allergies are skin related where i walk and feel a deep itch in my thighs and anywhere else i have tight clothing. Also when i work out - i have itch deep skin. This is under the surface and very uncomfortable especially when you are walking/working out. Leads to confusion etc. I had never used any allergy medicine before but decided just to see if i would feel any different. Anyhow, I started using Zyrtec the other day and almost immediately, I started fighting with my boyfriend - everything i was angry with him about came out. It was helpful but also i was very mean in my approach. I also started getting back pains around the spine area - not in the spine but around it and could not sleep until i took an ibuprofen. Today i experienced left shoulder and back pain. That was it for me and whats funny is that i took the lowest possible doze. So i am not touching that medicine again. I am a 36 year old woman. Its a strong medicine and something is strange with it (changes moods etc). I will have to change the medication for my niece before she goes through the side effects.

Hi there,
I too started taking Zyrtec for itchy skin, especially after being in the gym. My doctor told me the rashes were from the histamines in my skin not reacting to heat/cold. I was wondering if you experienced any side effects when you stopped taking the medication as I have been having neck, upper back and ear aches for the past week.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
I noticed you are experiencing back pain; mine is in the upper back and lack of sleep too is an annoyance.
I don't know if I am suffering from withdrawals as I've been taking Zyrtec for nine years.
Anyway, thanks for your post; nice to know I am not alone.
Best wishes,

I actually had pains when i was on it. When i got off it- i still had pains for half a day and they subsided. Then again i was not on this medicine for a long time- as soon as i noticed strange side effects, i got off it. Now i take Robitussin antihistamine (non drowsy) only when going to work out and then go cold turkey when i am not working out. I am looking for a natural alternative - will let you know when i find one. (That skin itch is horrible - right? i hate it- i feel like getting out of my skin for a minute. What do is stop working out and do weights instead when i get the reaction. They say one can even go into shock/faint etc if they continue working out when the allergy sets in). Its called Uticaria - if you research it, you will find alot under that topic, including different types but its all because of histamine imbalance in the body. Also some foods trigger this reaction. if you eat wheat, rice, celery before a work out - the histamines will become imbalanced. Apparently these foods set off the reaction in the body. This doesnt mean that you get off these foods, just dont eat them before a work out or after - unless its like 4 hours before or 4 hours after the work out.
I also find that a good intake of vitamin c helps prevent allergic reactions in my body - it must be a good type of vitamin c like Ester C.
Actually there is a website dedicated to people like you and me - with Uticaria - i will let you know when i remember the site address.

I'm so glad you posted this. I am experiencing sharp pains in my left shoulder, and some chest pain almost like air pockets in my chest. I will definately stop taking zyrtec.
