Just an update about the class action suit discussed previously, and Aamaya had provided us with the Florida attorney, Justin Wikin: I got a letter in the mail yesterday stating that they would not be pursuing suit against them. They said that they deal mainly with wrongful death cases and it does not mean that the case does not have merit, just that it is not their specialty. I will be doing some research here locally in Ohio to see if I can locate a practice to pursue this. If anyone comes up with something, please let us all know.

As an aside to this...I contacted a well-respected attorney in my area and explained the situation. (This attorney also deals mainly with wrongful death cases...so I explaiined that I was seeking a rferral for someone to do the class action suit.) He is going to look into it and get back with me, but basically explained that a class action suit normally starts by someone filing a basic lawsuit, such as a civil suit for pain and suffering. When several people have filed similar suits against the same person or company, it can then be lumped together as a class action. I asked how many it would take, cause I'm sure we can find enough here who would be willing to do just that! So when I get a local name and some more info...I'll post again.

nyrek, perhaps kris balekian could help. she has a special sheet to fill out, it can be sent to all of the women here. Her site is http://www.kjbattorney.com/ and you could ask her about the Mirena class action lawsuit. kris@kjbattorney.com is her email address, and she has a co-worker that can be reached at victoria@kjbattorney.com
I hope this will help!

Hi,
I was goggling Mirena, hair loss, suicidal thoughts, extreme depression, etc. etc. I just had the Mirena IUD removed after 10 months of agony, hair loss, etc., etc. Please keep me updated of what you are doing. I would like to help to prevent other women suffering the way I did.
Thx

I had to have my Mirena IUD surgically removed due to the fact that it moved and I was having severe pain loss of hair etc.. Anyone who has had the IUD knows of almost all the side effects that came along with the IUD.. Yet I do not recall be told any of this at the time that I had the IUD put in.. I know of at 4 plus individuals that have had the same problems. I was hoping if we could get enought women together we could start by filing complaints with the states attorneys offices and see if there is anything that they can do to help us. We may not be able to get results for Mirena but maybe we can get enough women togetherg to get the hospitals or doctors. if anyone has any information please contact me... miller4206@yahoo.com

I am very interested in any information anyone can give me in regards to a lawsuit against the makers of the Mirena IUD. At the VERY LEAST I would like to see the warning labels changed and the doctors more informed as far as the possibility of severe side effects. I had the Mirena inserted in August of 08 because my doctor thought it was the best option for my heavy, painful periods. I had cramping immediately which I attributed to the exam and my body adjusting to the new "device". My doctor agreed. I spotted for the first 2 months or so which was also told is normal and it did eventually subside. The pain and cramps did not. They have actually gotten continuously worse and are every single day with no reprieve. I got a bacterial infection from having it inserted, and just finished my second round of antibiotics for a second infection. The doctor's response to this is that we must not have gotten it all the first time so it came back. I have difficulty getting and / or staying asleep, and no matter how much sleep I do get, I am exhausted all the time!! I have also gained nearly 30 pounds, most of which came on almost instantly within the first 2 months, and cannot lose any of it no matter what I do. Muscle and joint pain, mid to lower back pain, numbness and tingling in my left thigh, headaches, and so on have all persisted and progressively worsened and I can find no relief no matter what I try. And emotionally, I'm a mess! I don't know if depressed is the right term but sad, easily irritated, unmotivated, lethargic, and bad temper. I am able to keep it in check but the rage I feel sometimes is a scary thing. I have 2 small children of my own as well as running a private daycare so this is NOT acceptable.
I am both relieved and saddened to find so many other women with the same side effects from this product. I now know I'm not crazy, nor am i alone in my suffering and Thank God I am having this removed tomorrow (3/20/09) at 10 am. I don't know what to expect as far as "recovery" from all these effects but I am hopeful. I hope that I am able to continue caring for children as this (used to) bring me great joy. But if I am unable to regain "my old self" I don't know that I can.
It infuriates me that the government and/or FDA claim to be so strict when it comes to new products or procedures, but then they allow something like this to go unchecked, make no changes to the warning labels, and dismiss our suffering as if we were less than human! This is unacceptable and irresponsible behavior and something needs to be done to prevent this from happening to many other women!

Please email me with any information that may be helpful at shannonsdaniels@yahoo.com

Thank you and good luck to all!

I am also looking for a lawsuit against Mirena. The Nurse Practioner that put mine in told that there was a chance of it going thru the uterus, but if that was to happen it would be when it was put in. I have had mine in for a little over a month now and have had pains not cramps in my lower region since it was put in. So I went ot the Mirena website to see what the side affects would be if had went thru the uterus, to my suprise I didn't find what I was looking for. So I made and appointment to have it checked. She did a pelvic exam and couldn't find the strings or feel it. So she sent me to the hospital for a vaginal ultrasound. They couldn't see it that way, so they did a topical ultrasound and still nothing. The radiologist orders an X-ray and they find it. It is in the area of the uterus, so he orders a CT-Scan to see if it is still in the uterus. Of course they will not tell me whether it is or not, so the send me back to my Nurse Practioner. She never says where it is until I ask. The she says she has to fax all of my info for her and the hospital to her doctor she works under. She can't give me any thing for pain of for a possible infection either. I ask her about the removal and all she said was they would let me know something on Monday. She didn't tell me how they was going to get it out or any idea when. The only thing she said is it has already went thru the uterus, what else can it do!
Please email me with any info on a lawsuit at:

Tomorrow will be one of the happiest days of my life! After nearly three months of being Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde, I am having this alien beast removed from my body! I got Mirena at the beginning of January. I'm 43 and can't take BC pills because of high blood pressure. The first couple of weeks I had it, I thought to myself that it was a cakewalk. I had no side effects, nothing. Then it came time for my first period since insertion. Pain, moodiness to the point I thought I was going crazy, dizziness, headaches--the list goes on. But, I "stuck it out" since "the side effects will get better after the first three months or so." Well, I am almost to that three month mark and I can't take anymore of it. The side effects have gotten worse, not better. My hair is so dry and my skin is breaking out. The depression, lack of any energy at all, the crying, no motivation and the weight gain--this is NOT worth it. I have gained about 5 pounds so far since having it inserted. And, I have had approximately two weeks that I wasn't bleeding in some way, shape or form in the past (nearly) three months. NOT worth it. I feel like garbage all the time. It's all I can do to cook dinner when I get home from work and then I sequester myself in my bedroom away from life in general. I have no emotional or physical energy for anybody. I just broke up with my boyfriend a couple of weeks ago (not Mirena driven--but that certainly hasn't helped my mood since the breakup--side effects started well before breakup). I don't need to be on birth control right now and if I ever do get back into a relationship, I will get my tubes tied. End of story. So, tomorrow is my day and then I have to work on trying to lose weight--not easy for anyone but espeically not easy after you hit the 40 year old mark. I can't wait to get myself back. For any woman looking at this message board considering getting Mirena, I would definitely say make sure you are FULLY informed. Don't just read what is on the Mirena website--they downplay the side effects. Read all over the Internet--there are hundreds of message boards. And, while I have read a few accounts of women who really had no problems with it and swear by it, there are about 50 to 1 that have had nothing but trouble. If I could reach the string (it is behind my cervix where I can feel it but can't grasp it) this beast would have already been gone in one of my fits of insanity (of which there are many--not like me at all). I don't recommend that a person do that, but I can see how it would happen. I think that it should be taken off the market completely!

I got a lot of these horrible symptoms, too.

Worst of all, NOW I'M PREGNANT! I paid $700 for Mirena! Out of pocket!

Just got through two surgeries to have my mirena removed. It was inside my abdominal cavity. I was fortunate to have a wonderul OB who did everything to rectify it as soon as it was discovered. I am truly disgusted at this device and the makers of it and would be very interested in the results of a class action lawsuit.

I'd also love to get information about any lawsuit against Mirena. I actually have to say that I loved my Mirena... no period, and didn't THINK that I had any side effects from it... until I had it removed and my mysterious allergic reaction/hives/rash/hamburger legs, arms, back, & stomach began to heal!! I have horribly disgusting pictures of my legs/body during the wost of my nightmare & I will have scars for the rest of my life. I have spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on dr. appointments, special creams, prescriptions, special detergants etc trying to figure out what could be causing the horrible rash & hives that I had. My gyn even told me that should doubted Mirena could do that when she saw me to take it out. Other women need to be warned about the real side effects- obviously they aren't a rare as Mirena likes to claim!!

Hello. I now have breast cancer. Since no one in my family has BC, my surgeon thinks the Mirena is the culprit. My life is in danger and in shambles because of this dangerous product. Am having it removed asap. I would love to participate in any lawsuits. andbenmakes5@gmail.com Amy

I had Mirena inserted in June 08. My left foot went numb and I also showed signs of High Blood Pressure. It was just perfect before. My doctor told me I was nutts and it couldn't be the Mirena. But reading other posting I am sure this is what caused it all! I am interested in a class action too. Email me at: xxLadyTexan24@hotmail.comxx Sarah

If any of these lawsuits get under way I would love to be a part of it!! I had the Mirena for 4 years no problems at all, until I had it removed and tried to get pregnant with my second child. I am convinced that the reason I had a miscarriage and now suffering from placenta previa is because of the Mirena IUD. My sister has had similar problems but she has now had two miscarriages. Both of us would be interested in any lawsuit against the makers of this product. It is not safe and women need to know!!!! Please email me at: sdarilek@gmail.com

I had the Mirena for a little over 3 years and i had numerous yeast infections and bacterial infections the entire time it was inside of me. My doctors made me think that i was crazy because there was no way the Mirena would cause this. Eventuallly, I realized that my hair was falling out, again my doctors thought that I was crazy. Now I am trying to conceive a year after having it removed and I am having a hard time with that. I am very interested in a lawsuit. sugapi3@hotmail.com

i am interested in anything that would have to do with a class action lawsuit against Mirena. i have an appointment to have mine taken out next week. i have actually had mine for almost 6 yrs. my first one i went the full 5 yrs not even thinking that my problems could be caused by the Mirena. My dr. assured me it was not from the BC at all. i have since then been to the dr atleast 10 times in the last yr (with no insurance) trying to figure out what is wrong with me. i don't even know how to be myself anymore. finally i conviced the drs to do blood tests on anything they could, horomones, thyroid, kidneys, liver, vitamins, electrolytes....everything came back 100% fine. how can i be fine and be experiencing, CHRONIC fatigue, weight gain, inability to lose weight no matter what i do, acne, complete loss of sex drive, irritability, mood swings, extremely hot tempered over the smallest things. this is ruining my marraige and my relationship with my son. hopefully i will be better after having it removed, if my dr agrees to remove it. please let me know anything that is happening...jeni_weis@hotmail.com i thought i was going crazy till i found all these other women that have/are feeling the same exact things

I am also interested in any information on a class action lawsuit against Mirena. I had this IUD placed two months after my son was born. The first two months with my son were wonderful. I was a little tired, but it was definitely manageable, and I loved bonding with my son and being a mom. My son is now 3 and 1/2 months old and the last six weeks have been hell on earth. I've been so depressed that I've gone to Community Mental Health Emergency Services twice because I was afraid I was going to hurt myself or my son. The second time I was ready to be committed because I didn't think I could go on; I just wanted to die so badly. I have a history of depression, but I've never had suicidal ideation like this. I've also had horrible anxiety, constantly worrying that something horrible is going to happen to him at any second. I haven't been able to sleep, even though I'm exhausted, which is making it all worse. This can't all just be coincidence, especially since so many other women are going through the exact same thing. Please e-mail me with any information: benderjaj@gmail.com I want Mirena to make it clear on their labeling that this IUD can have SEVERE side effects!
