Hi. I was diagnosed yesterday with Bells Palsy, (the entire right side of my face is completely paralyzed) and given prednisone, a tapering dosage. I started my first dose of only 20 mgs last night and went to 60 mgs today, will keep on that dose tomorrow as well as one more day, taper down to 40 mg for two days, then 20 mgs for two days. My heart feels like it's going to beat out of my chest! I can feel it it's beating so hard and I can also hear it when lying down .Very freaky. My blood pressure today was 164/107. My normal bp is 110/70. I take medication for high blood pressure but it's not doing much good. I am also a diabetic and my sugar is whack! Had to increase my Metformin. I'm assuming since no one has died from taking this HORRIFIC medicine, we'll all live through it but at times, I feel like I am going to have a frigging massive panic attack! I have to calm myself down, listen to music, meditate. That does help some but not enough .I will be sooooooooo glad when I'm done taking this SH*T! Another thing I've noticed is I am bone weary weak, like I've run the Boston Marathon, competed in the 1000 meter butterfly medley and then played 3 sets of tennis on top of that! GOOD GRIEF, HE INVENTED THIS CRAPOLA?

I've been taking prednisone since 3/31/08 for a blood condition. I started with 60 mg daily and I am now taking 10 mg every other day. I too have experienced insomnia and the nervousness you mentioned. In addition, my mood has improved and I have become extremely outgoing. My appetite has also increased which has caused excessive weight gain in a short amount of time. I REALLY HATE THIS. I've gone from a size 2 to a size 6. I gained 12-15 pounds. Due to the blood condition I had lost a considerable amount of weight so now I am back to my "normal" weight. Since the decrease in prednisone my mood/personality has started to return to normal so I am not as talkative as I had been. My family and friends have really noticed this change in behavior. Hopefully, I will be off of the prednisone in about a week. (Thank God) In the meantime, I will continue to take the medication as prescribed. Even though some of the side effects are not very desirable, they have kept my condition under control and I feel much better. Continue to meditate or pray, and hang in there!

I'm recovering from Bell's Palsy myself. Diagnosed on May 8th. The whole right side of my face was paralyzed and my eye wouldn't close. Make sure that you take care of any eye problems so you don't have any further complications. I had to take prednisone also. It made me crazy! I felt like I wanted to jump out of my skin and I couldn't sleep at all. Maybe 2 hours a night. I was pretty obsessive and completely cleaned out every drawer and crevice in my apartment throwing all kinds of stuff away. Anyway, I have been off prednisone for two days...the Bells Palsy is doing pretty well but I have been having bad headaches since. I still don't feel as if the prednisone is out of my system. I don't know how long it takes. I go see the neurologist for a follow-up next week. Anyway, good luck and hang in there. If it's any consolation...there is never a good time for Bell's Palsy to happen. I had to graduate from my master's program with it and missed a family vacation to Aruba to celebrate. Yeah, I've pretty much been feeling sorry for myself and then realize that I am just grateful that I wasn't suffering from a stroke, which is what I first thought.
