My daughter had the exact same experience. She received the first dose of Gardasil in February 2008, and we within 30 days noticed 2 bald spots in her head, one large on in the front of her head and one smaller on in the back of her head. The pediatrician stated she was uncertain as to what it was, and referred us to a dermatologist. We have seen the dermatologist twice in the last month, he stated the exact same thing that you were told. She has Alopecia areata, we did not ask him about the Gardasil, as I just started to focus on this. I will not allow her to get the third dose and continue with the treatments with the dermatologist. We will see how this goes.
I just posted about this. I had my last shot over a year ago and my hair has been falling out since then. It's terrible. I don't see new growth either. I have had numerous blood tests, dermatologist appointments and everyone said it must be stress or diet related. I had a full head of hair for 30 years and now it is a thin disaster. All day long I pluck loose hairs from my sleeves. It has totally affected my personality. I am very depressed about it. Hope things get better for you.
my 12 year old daughter was just diagnosed with alopecia areata. she received 2 doses of the gardasil shot. is this a coincedence???? i will not be getting the 3rd shot. i believe gardasil is the cause of this auto immune disease (alopecia areata) this shot is too new to be given to girls, more research is needed.
my 13 year old daughter received her second shot and since has been losing her hair in the front, causing her to have to part her hair on the side...the comb-over just to cover the bald spots! She also has been diagnosed with alopecia... what's going on here?! She will NOT be receiving the 3rd shot and I have already made complaints to the state. Something needs to be done
Hello-
I'd like to share my daughter's story of hair loss, which quite coincidentally occurred after her 3 shot series of Gardisil. Her first dose was given May 24, 07, the second on July 26, 07 and the third and final on Nov. 27, 07.
First let me tell you that my daughter was 13 just turning 14 years of age.
In November she noticed her hair would come out simply by touching it.
She kept reminding me through the next several months, quite often at how much hair was coming out when brushing it, shampooing it ectcetera.
It was April 2008 when you could actually notice that her density decreased by almost half. This has caused her to cry on a daily basis. She is starting high school in a few days and is very upset about her hair loss which is really becoming more and more noticable every day. We fear for her future as far as her self esteem and the insecurities brought about by the hair loss. The last thing a teenager starting high school wants to think about is something so dramatic as this tragedy. Just for the record, we have taken her to her Pediatrician, who then referred us to an Endocrinoligist, two dermatologists, and we're off to the Rheumatologist This November. Now almost a year later. Extensive bloodwork ruled out everything that was suspected that would cause hairloss in a young teen. (such as Thyroid Disease, Poly Cystic Ovary Disease, Diabetes, and many other possible illnesses that all came back negative. You can bet I will continue to pursue this further and with diligence. I will keep you posted.
A very concerned mother
i got my first one october of 2008, its november and i have two big bald spots in the front of my head. i'm calling y doctor tomorrow, i hope they don't say the same thing.
About a week after my third Gardisil injection I began losing hair. I now have no body hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, and 95% of the hair on my head is gone. I am being treated for Alopecia Areata as well. The primary care doctor I saw said that it could be the vaccine, but the dermatologist disagreed.
After no side effects with the first two doses, I received my third shot of Gardasil in October 2008. In December, i started to notice excessive amounts of my hair falling out. I have always had very thick hair. In the following months it got worse. My doctor ran blood tests and could find nothing wrong, and insisted that stress was a factor. As i have had no unusual amounts of stress in my life recently, i started to research possible reasons for my hair loss. i came across this website, http://www.americanhairloss.org/types_of_hair_loss/effluviums.asp which describes my symptoms perfectly, suggesting that a vaccine may have caused my hair to go into a resting stage, then fall out.
I am now left with a ponytail that is barely a centimetre across. Fortunately, my hair is now starting to regrow at the roots, but i am still losing handfulls at a time, especially when i brush or shampoo. Finally i have found some explanation for this, and i am extremely grateful.
