I took Doxy last summer for cystic acne. It worked fine and I didn't have any problems, and my skin cleared up nicely. I had some left over (bad, bad, I know but it hasn't yet expired!) so I started taking it again about 4 days ago. I noticed, almost immediately, severe tingling and burning in my fingers and hands and up into my arms when I am out in the sun and for hours afterwards. Also water (like washing my hands) makes the tingly feeling much worse. Weird, right? My two index fingers are bright red and any touch burns. It's weird because last summer when I was on it I was out in the sun all the time with no problems at all.

Shayrizzle,

I too am on Doxycycline for Limes Disease. I was also out in the sun yesterday. The lable warns you that you can be sun sensitive, and I used 30SPF. However, I expererienced the same symptoms as you, burning only on the tops of my hands and feet, and sensitive when water touches it. Also, they felt tingly and very "minty." Very wierd!

Also, this morning I noticed a rash on my left arm and a few other spots. It doesnt itch but the bumps hurt a little which also must be some kind of reaction to the meds.

Since I will be on this medication for a few months, it will be very difficult to make it through the summer months without being in the sun! I look forward to warm weather all year and now this complicates how I will do the normal summer activities. Good Luck!

I was amazed to read your artical about Doxy as I am haveing the same problem now myself and this is the first I have read that my symptoms are related to the medication and sun exposure,I was first on cipero for 10 days for pneumonia along with steroids but it didnt clear up so that was followed by 10 days of Doxycycline and on the 7th day I spent the day on the water and oh my god the horendous sun burn I got is unreal as i am native american but even my skin just fryed ,and my hands are on fire stinging blistering and water feels like hot greese when I wash them the finger tips feel numb, and im nausiated bad, with indigestion and short of air,my skin is so dryed out lotions and oils wont do anything for it, my doctor just said sun poisening but I thought she was insane I had never heard of anything like this can you tell me when the medication is stopped does the symptoms go away, please tell me yes I cant touch anything with out pain.

Yup, everything went away as soon as I stopped taking it. Nearly immediately. I would recommend stopping it soon!!! It's too bad because I really liked Doxy the first time I was on it, but this time was just terrible. Best of luck to you, that does sound awful and I hope you feel better soon!
