Hi! I am also taking Wellbutrin 300 mg daily and am having pretty serious hair loss. Just found on a website that this is a side effect for approx 1% of people who take it. I also have made an appointment with my doctor. I switched to Wellbutrin as everything else made me gain weight (30 lbs +). So now I fear that I will have to choose between being fat or having hair! Now that is really depressing! Please post if you find anything out and I will do the same....good luck!
I'm in the same boat. I'm 34, female, started taking Wellbutrin in April and now have a ton of hair loss, especially along my part-line. Stress is a definite factor (my mom is dying of cancer) so I can't say for sure. However, her condition has been known to me since last October and I didn't have hair loss 'till I switched from Zoloft to Wellbutrin. After reading about it, I have started taking multivitamins. I sure hope they work. Has anyone... ANYONE.. had any luck minimizing or stopping this hair loss while on Wellbutrin?
I have been on Wellbutrin for years and it definitely causes severe hair loss. The drug works really well for me but every few years I stop taking it and so far my hair has come back (though slowly). It would be wonderful if the manufacturer would address this problem, as it seems that so many suffer the side effect.
I have experienced alot of hair loss while on Wellbutrin XL (150 mg), to the point were I had three quarter-sized bald spots in my hair. Two of the spots are at the very top of my head and the other on the sid above my ear. My hair is long and thick and I thought it was stress but the hair loss continued. I have weaned myself off of the medication because I have also experienced short term memory loss, swollen ankles, and this strange sudden nausea and vomiting. I also had huge change in my bowel movements - I could not stop going, especially when I left the house. It got to the point where I had to know where every bathroom was in every store before I left the house. It seemed like I was either vomiting or pooping. I seemed to have gained weight also. But honestly, I don't know if that was the medication. My first day in two years without the medicine was 1 Sep 08 and I am so relieved. I mean my hair was really coming out. I have never in my life seen my hair this thin. It was really scary. My doctor wanted to put me on a lower dose - no thanks, I may wind up crazy, but at least I'll have hair!!!!!!!!! Stay away from it!
Doctors will not admit it but yes hair loss is a huge side effect - wean yourself off now! I have been on Wellbutrin XL 150 mg for 2 years and my hair has REALLY thinned out. I stopped perming it thinking it was the perm and it continued and I got another completely baldspot. I weaned myself off because if this continues I will be bald. I will just try to deal with my depression the best I can. With depression meds, you either gain weight or lose your hair. I'm off for good. Good luck!
