Hi Andrea,
I am in week 13 after having Mirena removed. I had mine in from February 2007 to February 2008. I didn't have any periods at all during that time. I had almost every side effect listed, except no hair loss or acne though I think that would have happened too if I hadn't had it removed. But I did gain 25 pounds, which has been very frustrating. In spite of all the exercise I could do, healthy eating, I gained, gained, gained. Anyway, once I had it removed, I bled two days later for two days, then three weeks later I bled REALLY heavily for about four days, then have had two normal periods since. I think I only just started to ovulate the last cycle I had, which seems to have started some weight loss now. I was getting very anxoius that the weight was never going to budge. From what I have read, I think people who didn't get a period at all may be having a harder time losing, but now that my cycles have started to straighten out, things are starting to shift. I did have the Mirena "crash" also that people talk about and had a lot of crying and frustration and that lasted about four days within the first month. All the other symptoms such as dizzyness, cramping, fatigue, swollen/tingly feet and hands (the list goes on and on) just seemed to fade away within the first few weeks.
All in all, it certainly wasn't worth the trouble. I hope this helps, Andrea. Good luck with your recovery!
Hi,
I got mine out 2 months ago yesterday and I still feel irritable and tired but better than before. People say it takes 6 months to heal completely. In the meantime I'm taking a multivitamin and trying apple cider vinegar therapy. Each day is better even if you don't notice.
