Loestrin 24 Fe Beautiful life, hypothyroidism, thyroid, twenty years, thyroid problems

Posted at 7:49 AM on May 31, 2008 by maggiemoey, #30979

I've been a pill taker for twenty years (maybe more). I switched to loestrin FE in November. I realize that any bc takes the body some time to adjust but this has been pretty brutal. I gained 12 lbs and I cannot get it off no matter how much I work out and/or don't eat. I'm depressed too yet I have a beautiful life. My doctor says you sometimes need a year for your body to adjust to a new pill

... i don't know if i can wait that long. my kids think i have lost my mind because i cry so much. i too think irrationally a lot more than in prior years. i will ask my doctor about this next week. it seems like this pill might have serious effects on the thyroid? most of the symptoms described are also associated with hypothyroidism.

I am hypothyroid, and I have learned that alot of women have it and do not know. You may be hypothyroid; however, it might not be from the pill. I started having thyroid problems before I was ever on any birth control. I have beeen on Yaz for two weeks now, and I have been extremely nauseated, fatigued, and diarreah!! My doc just called me in Loesrin-24, and now, I'm scared to try it. The Yaz has been horrible, and from what I have read, the Loestrin isn't any better. I am now so confused...maybe I shouldn't take anything!

hey there! I too, have been using birth control pills for about 20 years. I never had any problems (except the monthly migraine when switching to placebo week) UNTIL I tried Loestrin 24. This pill is EVIL. I gained 9 pounds in 8 months (I'm small, so it shows!), I suddenly had acne worse than any teenager, I was depressed, constantly convinced that I was pregnant, irritable, anxious, truly not my laid-back self. I went off the pill mid-cycle (NOT RECOMMENDED). Seriously, finish your pack and then be done with it. Since then, I am myself again. However, I do have heavier periods now that I am not on bc, and the day or 2 before my period starts I am very irritable. My body has definitely changed a bit after having a second child. I am thinking about trying Yaz, since it is a low dose, 24 day pill. My cycle is typically 35 days though. Wondering if there is something else out there for me? Maybe all bc pills should be avoided? Any thoughts?

I have now been off the Loestrin 24 for more than 2 months and I feel dramatically better. My periods are a little heavier but I'm not getting much warning (PMS) ahead of time. I feel that my hormones aren't as regulated but my mood is so much better more often. I have lost 8 of the 12 lbs and my clothes are fitting better again. My eye stopped twitching too. I'm not on anything at the moment but have been learning more about the Merca IUD. My sister in law loves hers. She claims that the hormones are localized so that you don't feel the dramatic effect like with birth control. I will talk to my doc about that option in September. I want to give my body at least 3 months without bc and/or synthetic hormones.

I have had a merina in for 12 months to reduce heavy periods as tehre was no change I went back to the doctors to have it removed only to find it had been out of position, so had another one inserted and some blood tests as i was feeling unwell, depressed, weight gain, itching eyes, feeling cold, insomnia, heart palpitations, headaches the tests showed i had hyperthyroidism yet i had more symptoms of hypothyroidism i feel this was caused by mirena but the doctors deny it yet looking into different sites the above symptoms are very common so i don't know if i feel unwell due to the merina of the thyroid will be going to the specialist this week hopefully to find out has anyone else had hyperthyroidism diagnosed while on mirena

this is insane! I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and have been taking the synthroid for four years; starting at sixteen after gaining weight and losing energy- which probably resulted in teenage move- and introduction to alcohol and reefer for social acceptance.
