Had Mirena fitted 7th Feb 2008 and having it taken out on 12th June 2008. My stomach is huge despite eating sensibly and exercising. Also suffer from cramps on a daily basis, craved chocolate and have felt down in the dumps!! Can anyone tell me if having it taken out is as painful as insertion and will I bleed as much as when it was fitted. Am very nervous about the whole procedure. Many thanks

I had mine removed May 6th. When it was put in (December 2007) I was cramping so badly I couldn't even stand up straight for hours! When it came out, there was a little pinch, similar to a pap smear, and that was it. A little bit of cramping later on that night, but NOTHING like it was when it was inserted! Still wating for relief from some of the side effects, like the weight gain, bloated stomach, and acne...but the joint pain is gone, the heartburn is gone, and the irritability is gettting better slowly. Good luck to you!

Having it removed was not a problem at all. Like nyrek said, it was a single pinch/cramp sensation and that was it. Two days after removal, I had two days of spotting but I don't think that is the norm. I only had mine for 5 months so that may have been part of the reason.

yes mine was very painful, the doctor told me that it would be easier than when I had it put in, just a little pitch. Wrong, she couldn't find the strings after searching for a little while then finally she asked the nurse for some clamps and next thing I knew I almost jumped off the table, it hurt sooooooo bad. Then when she finally found it, it hurt while pulling it out. I immediately started cramping and did so most of first day and in morning next two days. it may be that I had mine in for almost 3 years and that the strings had gone further up, I don't know but it hurt really bad, worse than when I got it in.

Taking out your mirena does not hurt but you might have heavier periods and more painful cramping

I had mine removed two weeks ago at an urgent care clinic because I could not get my OB's office to fast-track an appointment for removal and I wanted it out. It was slightly uncomfortable, but more like one pinch/cramp as someone else here said. Since then, my acne seems to be dissipating, the abdomen bloat is better, the facial hair has all but stopped and the fatigue is also much less. I wish I'd found this message board a year ago! Good luck.
